Same stepping as my XP1600...

How about Ultra SPARC processors from Sun Microsystems? They could still be good, but no one seems to sell them here in the Philippines....

Wouldn't overclocking your processor possibly damage your motherboard permanently? I think that's a risk I'm not willing to take...
Guys, what is the best motherboard out there? I have an Elite ECS P4VMM2 motherboard. Is that any good? Or would ASUS or Intel be a better deal. I hear Jetway has several problems....

So far, in my experience... no motherboard died due to overclocking...
Epox, MSI, FIC, Tyan, Leadtek, Chaintech, AOpen and Asus... these are some of good quality motherboards.... Epox ranks number 1 in overclocking.
Abit mobo's are not good... they usually die!![]()
about the processors.
A listing for there Cache and Bus Speed, for comparison.
AMD Athlon 4 : 128 L1 Cache and 256K on-die L2 Cache, 200MHz
AMD Duron : 128k L1 - 64k on-die L2 , 200MHz
Intel Pentium 4 : 20k L1 - 512k on-die L2 , 400MHz
Intel Pentium 4M: 12k L1 - 512k on-die L2 , 400MHz
Intel Pentium III : 32k L1, 256k on-die L2 , 100 or 133 MHz
Intel Pentium IIIM : 32k L1 , 512k L2 , 133 MHz
as you can see, AMD is more on cache than on bus speed, and on the intel pentium 3 and 4, you can see a major difference on there M series.
the P4 is geared towards small pockets of processing, something that mobile computing is all about.
New models are already dew for release. so amd or intel? maybe both.![]()
Apple PowerPC G4 - 64k L1, 1,024k back-side L2. 100MHz.
Transmeta CrusoeTM5600: 128k L1, 512k L2, 100MHz.
The Crusoe is very good in power management, infact sony has a line of crusoe based laptops and notebooks, all geared for longer battery life.
Ako, i'll try AMD, maybe the ClawHammer.next time.

AMD is the best, if you're asking a tech freak. AMD has the performance and the price edge over Intel. For me Intel is just a a part of the past that lived today because of tradition. A lot people were used to using intel products before when IBM was a giant in the business, and it continued for a while when the processor market was opened. But today, AMD is clearly the best processor there is. I believe, in 2 to 3 years time, AMd will beat the hell out of Intel.
mmhhh, better buy stocks of AMD then.![]()
but you know, just like with any other field of the industry. we might say that AMD is going to be the one, that if we still try to base it on the current technology trend.
but what if, a newly based technology would be develop, shall we say, by intel, then, intel would lead the tech wars then.
as with both, they are heavily involved in the development of new applications, cause they know, their chips are worth nothing if the future applications won't take full advantage of their technology.
to make sure, they are on it.
