As for me, SnO is something that is very "noisy" and I don't want to poke my nose there.

I think segregating the S&O forum into sub-forums might be a good idea, too. Perhaps we can arrange it this way:

    1. Philosophy (All things related to philosophy such as metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, logic, aesthetics, etc.)

    2. Theism (All things related to religion):

    2.1. Protestantism
    2.2. Catholicism
    2.3. Orthodox
    2.4. Judaism
    2.5. Islam
    2.6. Hinduism
    2.7. Buddhism
2.8. New Age and Occult, etc.

    3. Atheism (All things related to atheism)

    4. Debates (Debates on issues related to philosophy, theism and atheism):

    4.1. Informal debates
    4.2. Formal debates

Members who want to explore a particular topic or issue and who don't want to challenge anyone's idea or beliefs can post under the first three sub-forums. Those, however, who are more interested in engaging in a friendly debate with fellow Istoryans can post topics under the fourth sub-forum.

wow. that needs a lot of hardcore moderating.

hey mods, i say good luck with that idea.

.. the best solution is what vern suggested... moderate it with an iron-fist, if need be.

    Does it sound impractical?

I don't know. It might actually make things easier for our mods.

As I imagined it, the first three sub-forums (Philosophy, Theism and Atheism) would be places for those Istoryans who share similar views. For example, let's say I'm a Theist and a Muslim, and I want to explore a particular issue. Now, at that particular instance I'm not interested in arguing with anyone. I simply want to know what other Muslims think about a particular topic. So the place for me to do that is the Theism-Islam sub-forum. There, I can talk with other Muslims and not worry about folks from other religious perspectives challenging my views. If someone comes along and challenges my views, a mod can remind that person to post a topic under the Debate sub-forum instead and invite me to engage with him on an informal or formal debate. If that person persists on his challenge in the Theism-Islam sub-forum, well, the mod can give him an infraction.

Or, let's say, I'm an atheist, and I want to talk with fellow atheists about how atheism should be defined or I want to learn what they have to say about some arguments against the existence of God, etc. So I can post under the Atheism sub-forum and not worry about anyone challenging my point of view, because at that particular instance I'm not interested in defending my views; rather I'm simply interested in learning from or with fellow atheists.

If a particular topic should be posted under the Theism sub-forum when it actually belongs in the Debate sub-forum, a mod can simply transfer that topic, warn the TS, or close it.

And of course, our mods ought still to moderate with an iron fist.

See , what forumers dont understand ... RELIGION / SPIRITUALITY and PHILOSOPY are like issues to be tackled with an OPEN MIND and POINT of VIEWS .

A typical SnO resident forumer and some bantay salakay visitors are :

    - ARROGANT
    - Too INTELLIGENT but cant comprehend simple guidelines
    - Shoves OPINIONS into someones else throat
    - BIAS and 1 SIDED
    - HARDCORE FANATICS
    - NUISSANCE

I personally would be BANNING / AWARDING INFRACTIONS if not all , majority of the posters for repeated / redundant discussions . That would even include but not to limit on REGNAULD , CHAD TUKES , JAMESMUSSELWHITE , KEBOT etc whom are some of the people I admire because of the knowledge and brilliant ideas they have as much as they also are arrogant , smartazz and hardheaded .

I am also guilty of it as a human being but handling Sno is not easy otherwise ma extinct ang SUB FORUM because nangahurot na ang posters . As much as MODERATORS regulate the board , I am hoping that FORUMERS would be helping also instead of creating damage .

Yup I agree, as FORUMERS we also have our own responsibility, to give a dignified, intelligent and more sensible posting. I will do my best to follow..............

Here is just a little preview of what is going to happen.

    • The current forum will be totally locked. No postings will be allowed in the forum. You will be allowed to read the forum so that you may learn from all the things you are no longer allowed to do.
    • Moderators will be stricter. Yes, no leniency. No insta-bans (yes, I'm talking to you SPRING) ... but there will be "special" infractions that have a bigger point value (3) and last longer (90 days). That means two infractions gets you a mute. Three infractions gets you a ban.
    • ONLY senior members and above are allowed to post in the forum. If you have spent enough time posting at iSTORYA to become a senior member, then perhaps your account may mean something to you and perhaps you don't want it to get banned. This will also allow us to remove outright those who want to create multiple accounts for the purpose of their hate-spewing ways.
    • As I see it right now, there will be three sub-forums. You'll see 'em when you see 'em
    • When is this going to happen? This weekend most likely when I get the time to do them.

On a parting note, I leave you with a quote from Aristotle ... "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it."

It is my hope that most of you will take a step back and choose to take the educated route.

Of course, all of us 'forumers' have a responsibility to behave and keep discussions clean and productive. It's just that if the forum were broken down into sub-forums, much confusion and conflict might be avoided.

I've noticed that many of the topics in the S&O board are posted with well-intentions. It only becomes dirty when some people comes along and starts challenging the TS's views and often in a rude way. If we can have sub-forums wherein 'forumers' can discuss topics and not be challenged, and another sub-forum wherein 'forumers' can actually challenge and respond to challenges, things might be more orderly.

    But that's merely a suggestion.
