It's not only about the Gaisanos but if they will not allow motorists to make a left turn from Country Mall to Talamban, it is like closing down the Apas access.
If this was a wise idea, then they should have already implemented years ago. I pass this route almost 6 times a day when I was still living in Cebu.
The solution is obvious, there needs to be an access road for exit from Gaisano that will terminate somewhere parallel to the underpass area of the BTC overpass.
I may be mistaken, but I believe that left turn from Gaisano to Talamban was at one time not allowed for the simple reason that it is the major cause of traffic along Banilad Rd. Notice that going towards downtown from Talamban, it is all clear after Country Mall. This is the bottleneck. The rule was changed only a few months ago. It used to take only 3 minutes from BTC to Waterfront hotel before they implemented this rule. Now it takes almost 20 minutes.
It is patently retarded to not allow pedestrians to cross that road and build a pedestrian walkway and then turn around and allow left turn from Country Mall. In the first place, the pedestrian walkway was built to prevent traffic from building up here, ditto the pedestrian barriers on street level. Allowing left turn from Gaisano is plainly politically motivated. No city planner in their right mind would spend millions for an overpass only a few hundred meters away only to then turn around and defeat the entire purpose of the overpass by clogging up traffic downstream. As things stand, for people going from Talamban to the City, the overpass is completely useless because most of the time it is backed up in traffic.
Anyway once again more wasted funds and resources because of corruption and/or crass stupidity by CITOM.
