How do you find out if it's just a survey or not? What do you mean by survey by the way? Aren't surveys supposed to be at the disgretion of the user where they will send us a form and it's upto us to fill it up or not... Or is it a kind of survey where they just secretly get information from your PC? If so, wouldn't that be considered hacking? Naglibog lang ko...

@werty: Your right microsoft wont come after my data but there have been a lot of people who have pirated copied and upgraded their OS using auto update and after it screwed up their system. So maybe its not an attemp to get or steal data but to destroy data?? Wouldnt this be possible?

@Crash: HAve you tried getting a survey from microsoft? Is it a "let me just take a peek at this guys PC?" Thing or really a formal survey just as st@rr said.

I appreciate your help guys, this is just some info that would really help others. Its not nice to know some coming in your "window" a la dawsone creak every now and then without you knowing it, microsoft or anyother company/individual. I know there are a lot of hackers who are just skipping I.P.'s every now and then, and I do not like it, glad my firewall's in full defense!

survey is just an example for some other companies... i dont know if what really microsoft needs from our PCs... ?? but i think getting IN without permission is crime... hmm... noh? hehehe...
or maybe, somebody is using company names to be able to go through other people's PC around the net... now, thats hacking...

mao na problema basta pirated or unlicensed na OS nya mag-update or mag auto-update ka.pangitaon gyud ka sa microsoft.hehehe.[/b]

i think its better to Disable Windows AutoUpdate... just like what i'm doing... the only update i installed is the RPC bla bla shutdown fix... i'm not having problems with windows though... no bugs for me...

AFAIK... SP1a screws ur system when it detects that your OS CD-Key is listed in their hot list. This list contains the most commonly used CD-Keys used by pirates.

basin naka autorun imo msgr then hide sa taskbar... kanang gagmay kaayu nga icons sa lower right? i believe pag install sa winxp default na i run minimized... then basig ga auto update to siya... basin lang hehe.

turn off your WinXP auto-updates. Mine I turned it off.

ive used AUTOUPDATE since WindowsXP was released(sa mga kilid-kilid,hehehe),even installed lots of lots service packs even installed lastest for Office 2003.never had any problems whatsoever aside lang for human errors.if naa man gani masugatan,naa raman simple workaround.anyways,autoupdate was & is still safe for me.....
