@kamsky, you already told us that you haven’t use PB ever since, if you presenting PB as one of the RAD tool same as what uchihacirxe expresses, I advise you to see and work on it first.
I can consider it as RAD tool but in some occasional cases only. Don’t just say that PB can build socket server and listen ports. Coz I can make that in 10 lines of codes more or less… don’t just say that PB is able to call native API’s, or communicate devices coz that makes sounds stupid! It can only do that because tthey wrap all the existing functionality into a self-styled POWERSCRIPT! If new devices come, new technology arises, you cannot just directly communicate, but instead you will develop a C/C++ code and import it to PowerScript.
The new PowerBuilder which is currently in BETA state, will run on Visual Studio (isolated mode) same as what I have now in python. Instead of using some existing python IDE, I can use the Visual Studio.
I read on the FAQ that they will wrap the .NET codes into PowerScript style, especially on the WCF and WPF. Which is a pretty bad idea, I feel that, it is nearly impossible to do that. If somebody wants to learn on .NET framework, I don’t think they will go for PowerScript. VS2008 is already an ultimate RAD tool, documentation, debugging, templates, snippets, the device emulator, deployment manager, database integration and lots of giant third party integration such as Intel, IBM etc… and lots lots lots of goodies and stuff that PB does not have and never to have… FYI Sybase updates the PB for every 1.5 years or more… that‘s a huge drawback for a so-called RADTOOL!
