It's not so much a problem of running out of space as it is a problem of running out of resources. Humans however, are resilient beings. We tend to come up with ideas to save our collective butts when pushed to the edge. Ang tiguwang pa ang paingnon, masamang damo tang tanan. lol

    if earth becomes too crowded,
then thats a very big problem..
scarcity of food will take place due to high demand..
and farmers cant farm coz its already crowded..

it's impossible for the earth to be crowded. there are numerous land mass on earth that can be used for man to inhabit. it's a matter of choice. but most of us know, that all of us wants comfort and proximity of people. after all, no man is an island.

wed run out of resources even before we run out of land... dili tanan land habitable.. example. sahara desert, mongolian desert, artic and antartic regions..

overpopulation is not about land.. its about resources and the standard of living...

i think it's a little bit of both. running out of space as well as running out of resources are interrelated with each other. we run both risk as a result of overpopulation. although as what groovestreet pointed out, we can colonize the ocean, but i doubt it'd be easier than it is to go to Mars instead. ahhhh i have such a wild imagination. ganahan gyud ko adto sa Mars.

uhh.. nindot ang mars.. hehehe vote pud ko ana..

    lets study the costs

annual cost for a human being to live comfortably --- varies per place... basta mahal..

space rockets = billions of $ each

undersea colonies = billions of $ each

reclamation of inhabitable places = can be done with millions of $ per project

.45 cal bullet = less than 20php each..

machete = around 500php each (multiple uses)

    condom = 20 php (3 pcs)

kung unsa mahitabo.. only time can tell.. but as i see it, it aint pretty...

OT: Actually, deep see exploration would serve as great "training ground" for future space exploration, seeing as the environments below the surface tend to be very inhospitable, much like one would expect in outer space, or Mars for that matter.

Anyway, I think the real problem is not the actual number of people in the planet today, but the habits our society finds hard to break. Kita ra sad tanan ang angay basulon ani. The even sadder part? We know what needs to be done to save ourselves from a bleak future.

that's the thing though... living in Mars can become very expensive. probably a million times worse financially than living in Earth. i'm not so knowledgeable about Astronomy, but from what i've read, first we have to face a bigger problem---how to make Mars even habitable. that would take a lot of government funding/resources. then there's the rocket needed to get people to Mars. plus, you'd have to design specialized suites for every people you put there. hehehe ka hasul.
