    Default LTSP in ubuntu

    Try to post here hoping to find some tips. I've been working on a project which is converting the workstation to be diskless and booting through the LTSP via network as part of my company cost reduction(electricity and future coming workstation). I have 80 workstations under my wings all running ubuntu 8.04LTS. I have diskless test unit and manage all necessary setup and run almost perfect except for one problem. The problem is usb printers are not detected in the diskless workstation. Okay ra unta kung usa ra ang usb printer but we have tons of usb printers too like label, coupon, laser, and inkjets. As what you are expected on a manufacturing company. We have also network printers and it works will in diskless workstation. I been working this almost 2 weeks now and hopefully I can find the right answer.

    Thanks in advance...

    Hi,

    Did you type already the lsusb command?
    If not, Please try.

    OR

    Try to check the lts.conf file.

    Add printer to the lts.conf file, if it is not available.
    ex.
    PRINTER_0_TYPE = U
    PRINTER_0_DEVICE = /dev/usb/lp0
    PRINTER_0_PORT = 9100

    Then install the printer driver packages such as PPD, jprint and etc.
    NOTE: Make sure CUPS is installed in your system.

    Hope this will help you although wala kaayo ko knowledge sa LTSP.
    Pero I have an experience in Printers.

    Thanks

    Bro thanks for the post but I did this already. Most of documentation found in the net regarding diskless worskstation is for "Thin client". Somehow I am thinking that the configuration for a diskless workstation is different compare to a thin client. My main problem here is the printer in not detected. Anyway I have to recheck my lts.conf coz this is the main configuration for managing the client specially the hardware setup. I am little bit confuse if the usb printers is dependent of lts.conf coz I found out that some usb devices works will in the diskless workstation like flatbed scanner, barcode scanners and usb drives.

    I found out that there are lot of things to be consider before it gets work. Specially there are existing services are affected. To "Waterboy" thanks for your input and it may not point to my problem but your doing great job back there. Perhaps we are not same setup compare to ours. I was right back then in my second post that fat client is different configuration compare to a thin client. Anyway I am glad that my long term project is now in action and it is on production mode.

    Best regards to all - Deford
