i rebooted several times and tried configuring the security keys until PSK AES worked. for now I don't want to touch the AOSS button or function or i might loose everything again.

I have this kind of wireless router. I flashed it with dd-wrt open source firmware. Here's the link to the instruction: WHR-G300N - DD-WRT Wiki

Just note that you may brick your router if not properly done (use at your own risks). Also, with dd-wrt, this router can be used as a wireless client (not wireless bridge).
