    Default Treatment for nightmares

    Treatment for nightmares

It has been suggested that people who suffer from nightmares could benefit from the ability to be aware they are indeed dreaming. A pilot study was performed in 2006 that showed that lucid dreaming treatment was successful in reducing nightmare frequency. This treatment consisted of exposure to the idea, mastery of the technique, and lucidity exercises. It was not clear what aspects of the treatment were responsible for the success of overcoming nightmares, though the treatment as a whole was successful.

Australian psychologist Milan Colic has explored the application of principles from narrative therapy with clients' lucid dreams, to reduce the impact not only of nightmares during sleep, but also depression, self-mutilation, and other problems in waking life. Colic found that clients' preferred direction for their lives, as identified during therapeutic conversations, could lessen the distressing content of dreams, while understandings about life—and even characters—from lucid dreams could be invoked in "real" life with marked therapeutic benefits.

my lucid dream experience is jumping from one place to another, places that i've always loved and enjoyed being in.. ala jumper..
if you want to be a lucid dreamer and experience the positive side effects.. pinch yourself, or bite your lips from time to time (or make it a habit) esp. if you cant connect the dots as to how or why youre in that place.. if your dreaming, it wouldnt hurt at all, then lucid dreaming starts.. if it does hurt, youre awake.. then enjoy your little wonderland.. hehe..

    Improve Your Problem Solving Skills

Scientists understand the benefits of lucid dreaming; some have used it to enhance their problem solving skills in extraordinarily creative ways.

Take Friedrich Kekule's discovery of the structure of the benzene molecule; Otto Loewi's experiment on nerve impulses; and Elias Howe's invention of the sewing machine. This highlights the stunning power of the subconscious mind, which we so often ignore.

Once you learn the basics of conscious dreaming, you can solve problems on demand - and on a whole new level. That's because you are not limited by your logical conscious brain. Instead, you can solve problems creatively in a 3D environment, or by drawing deeper insights directly from your subconscious mind.
