How will you know that you are good if there is no evil. You can only tell what you are if you know what you are not. This is a world of duality, you can't tell if thing is small if there is no such thing as big. Or if all things are of the same size, will the word small or big exist? So in order for something to exist in this realm, there should be an opposite.

Personally, I don't think God is malevolent..
I've learned that good is always smarter than evil. But sometimes, because good is often left unrecognized, it would seem that evil is tolerated. There are many good acts that disappear in history and nobody really know about it. But many evil acts are remembered throughout history sometimes never forgotten even. Suppose God were above Good and Evil (of course, otherwise God would not be God after all), so I guess it would really appear that God tolerates evil.. but if God did not, then all of us would perish then, because if God did not tolerate evil, God will not tolerate evil on ALL levels. It would be unfair if God only tolerated big evils from small evils. The sun shines on both large evils and small evils, as well as the good. No living thing is perfectly good, otherwise it'd be God. (this is already way out of the discussion, but on the other side, no living thing is perfectly evil, too.. and even that is also God)

Those are just my thoughts that I've collected from reading and listening to other people I believe more learned than me.

Without evil, suffering and pain. What is God? It seems our comprehension about him is nothing near. Omnipotent, omniscient cross along all aspect of life. What we have observed are just the morals of it yet we don't understand. Who does? But does that not mean he don't exist because we don't understand... hmmm.

His intention that we will live gave us a chance to know him. Why not?
