If we just follow logic alone, bigger numbers mean that more resources will have to be consumed. While our population is shooting up, our resources are slowly dwindling. Overpopulation is not a myth, you see it everyday in the streets. It's not just our cities that are overpopulated but the country itself. Our projected population is 92.23 million people by 2009 (according to
National Statistics Office, Philippines Official Web Site). We are the 13th most populous country in the world, outranking only China, India, the EU, US, Indonesia, Brazil, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Russia, Japan, and Mexico. By 2050, our tiny nation will have to contend with 142-146 million people. We are so f*cked, pardon the French.
We are a small country and a poor one to boot. Saying that we don't have a population problem is saying that the Earth is flat and it is in the center of the universe. Please, we're not in the dark ages anymore. The more people we have, the amount of services and resources will go down.
Overpopulation is one of the reasons of poverty. One of the first steps to stop this ridiculous baby-factory is education. That is what the RH Bill offers. Nope, it does not offer abortion and it has nothing gay about it. The Filipino people as a whole are not enlightened about the dangers of overpopulation, mainly due to the outdated beliefs of the Philippine Catholic Church. In fact, the church is merely adding the the problem by clinging to the idea that abstinence is the best way to curb the issue. Heck, if abstinence worked, then we wouldn't be in such a deep hole right now.
