When I realized that the creation story was funny. The following period was science class. Discussed astronomy and the big bang etc etc. Then the possibility of other life, possibly intelligent as well. The universe is quite a big place you know.

The thought made me think what would happen to religion if there are indeed other people out there. Did a Messiah come and save them too?

guess what made more sense to a 3th grader. that was the start
gotta love USC for teaching good science.

And my parents don't go to church anymore. Now I'm curious why.

@ chadtukes: No one/nothing influenced you to be a non-believer? You were an altar boy you know, something must've pulled you away from all the lies of religion (..in your line of thinking...)

@ schmuck: Hey, I have that kind of thinking too! Anyway, do you imagine other forms of life out there somewhere in the universe?

like schmuck and basically most of the atheists around, i did my homework---read a lot, did some research, and realized that ID is BS and a whole lot funnier than i thought. nobody really influenced me. my parents, unlike schmuck's, still goes to church. people around here do. they ask me sometimes, but of course i refuse to.

@ chadtukes: so you were forced to be an altar boy when you were still in HS? I don't buy "I-suddenly-did-my-homework-and-now-I'm-atheist" kinda thing. I don't plan to say anything against atheism, I'm just asking what particular incident/question/experience that ticks inside a once-a-follower-of-religion to explore deeper the truthfulness or the fallacy of faith.

curious question: If I'm an atheist, does it necessarily follow that I'm amoral?

why punish the good deeds? would that mean also that you have no fear to do bad deeds?

you could say that, yes. it was the popular thing to do. any high school kid wanted to be popular once in their high school life. being an altar boy with your crush in front of you was an enjoyable experience. kidding aside, may i ask why you don't buy into that notion? it's really not a surprise. i personally know some people who've become overnight atheists, and some who were very religious then decided they ain't deal nothing of those religious crap anymore.

but really, it doesn't necessarily follow that you have to have a significant "INCIDENT" in your life to be able to make that important transition in your life. the main ingredient is knowledge, logic, and reason. humans have all three. but once in your life, you'd come to a point where you have to open your eyes and use those three.

morality is not based on some supernatural being.. its based on society and man's rule of governance for his fellow men..

no it doesn't. it's an outright ridiculous argument thrown upon atheists.

some people can't fathom that idea.. there HAS TO BE an incident of some sort..
