i think she's okay for a person with that much money. she's glamorous but she's dressed well. not so much queme unlike other rich people. at least she talks to people "below" her social level unlike some. and by the way, joanna is monique's sister-in-law. she's nice too. i love talking to her whenever i meet her. imagine it takes about 1 to 3 months just to finish 1 bag.

i dont know about making clothes financially affordable for people below the par of local or international celebs...i mean the international fashion business is a ruthless game, small designers would kill to get their names recognized and even the more famous ones are always on their toes to make sure the business is running smoothly...so i dont see the sense BUSINESS-WISE in her CREATING affordable clothes for the masses.

the bags are designed by Joanna Maitland-Smith Lhuillhier, not monique's.

yeah...cebuana pero dili man sad rags to riches na story.. hehehe

im sure while she was still here iyang social circle daan was mga rich and foreigner-ish. dli mga common people.

i guess its fantastic to be rich..eheheh she went to switzerland for finishing school man cgro toh.. tag $25k or more ang tuition. then after that kadtong fashion designing school or something.

i think she also made a wedding dress for one of cebu's rich chinese families to the tune of $10k (or was it 20). once again, i will say...its great to be rich!!!! heheh

ot: no offense meant, but can't we just be happy of other people's success and be inspired by their stories. it is one thing to have money... and entirely a different tune when one uses it wisely. it's highly commendable she optimized her privilege of being rich to serve her purposes and make more money out of the skill she got with using the money she used so well.

    peace.

Lhuillier joins Barbie's bridal fashion parade

    June 23, 2006

    DENISE I. O'NEAL Favorite Things

Dress designer Monique Lhuillier launched her first bridal collection 10 years ago, and now she's put a gown on an American icon -- Barbie.

Lhuillier has picked up celebrity clients along the way over the last decade and found herself designing wedding dresses for Natalie Imbruglia, Charlotte Ross and Debbie Matenopoulos.

In 2004, Lhuillier was chosen by more than 300,000 viewers of the "Today" show as having the winning design for Nikki Hensley's wedding dress as part of the "Today Throws a Destination Wedding 2004" series. She also designed 2004 Emmy gowns for winner Allison Janney, and attendees Jamie-Lynn DiScala, Megan Mullally and Famke Janssen.

Lhuillier's rise in the fashion world hasn't been mercurial, but it has been steady, with 2004 proving to be her most productive year. In addition to the gowns designed for the Emmy Awards show, Lhuillier was chosen to design the wedding gown of pop star Britney Spears along with dressing Kevin Costner's bride, Christine Baumgartner.

Hollywood weddings are big tabloid news, but how does wedding designer make her way into the world of collectibles? By being one of the world-class designers who have dressed America's most famous doll. The list of designers for Barbie include Bob Mackie, Cynthia Rowley, Byron Lars, Nolan Miller, Calvin Klein, Versace, Christian Dior and Lhuillier's wedding gown rival, Vera Wang. The Monique Lhuillier Bride Barbie is the latest fashion-designer creation for Mattel's top-selling doll.

Dressed in a gown with an off-white lace bodice and full tulle skirt, Lhuillier's creation is the quintessential picture of a modern bride. The dress is accented with a sable-colored sash at the waist with a floral brooch, with the ends of the sash adorned with faux pearls and silver sequins.

The doll's accessories include faux diamond stud earrings and faux diamond ring; lace undergarments and an off-white garter with blue ribbon. The doll has brunette hair and brown eyes ($140).

The doll is available at Monique Lhuillier boutiques, through the Barbie Collector's Catalog and at www.barbiecollector.com. The doll is also available at all Gold Label dealers.

Mattel is offering an FAO Schwarz exclusive version of the doll featuring blonde hair and blue eyes and a blue-color sash to match her eyes. The doll will be available beginning Aug. 1 ($140).
