Sony: Piracy is a big concern and the reason we can't do business in Philippines

A Sony executive has stated that the widespread piracy in the Philippines is forcing many companies to abandon any plans for manufacturing software in the region. He went on to say that this is the sole reason why Sony would not even consider importing PSP videogames into the Philippines. However, he did admit that it is difficult to quantify how much the industry loses in relation to the PSP and stated that it is very difficult to quantify.

"I think its also the problem of other companies," he said, citing the widespread availability of pirated versions of movies, audio products, video-games and computer software.

He said this was why Sony would not even import copies of video-games for their popular Playstation Portable (PSP) into the Philippines.

Kobayashi said he could not say just how much the industry lost to piracy saying: "Its very difficult to quantify."

anyways most people on pinoypsx.com if not all frowns upon piracy.... we want our PS3 locally supported!! lols anyways another advantage for the PS3 is that i usually check web related stuff on the TV now coz the PS3 boots faster than my PC :P maybe in less than 8 secs i can be browsing the net from the time i push on the power button

The advantage of ps3 is it's hidden potential that is still to be exploited by the game programmers. Mura gud ug ps2 sa una, tong bag-ong gawas bati kaayo ang mga games kay ang graphics bulingit kaayo like Ridge Racer V. Kung i-compare nimo ang ps2 sa una sa Xbox ug Gamecube, mabiya-an gyud ang ps2. But in the long run programmers finally found ways to navigate and program the ps2 and then you get excellent like the God of War II.

Ana pud ang ps3 ron.

Other advantages is dili ka magproblema sa overheating like the infamous RROD sa Xbox360.

The disadvantage of the PS3: Mahal ra kaayo compare sa mga competing console ug ang games.

Naa gani possibility nga ma-down ug ayo ang ps3 due to sales issues.

My PS3 is used in my Home Theater, as a BD player and to stream movies from my PC. It was the cheapest solution related to BD playback and streaming.

advantages nice graphics and cool games, and the disadvantages very expensive and the console is so bulky

Anyway, here are the advantages and disadvantages of the PS3:

Advantages:

Most powerful Hardware there is on the current generation of consoles. Evidenced by superb graphics when used to its potential i.e., Uncharted, Killzone, MGS4, LBP.

Cheapest and best Blu-ray player on the market.

Disadvantages:

Currently harder to program for games but expected to get easier once learning curve hits its peak. Almost all multi-platform games the PS3 gets screwed in the graphics department.

Online features is still second best to XBOXlive but that's what you get for getting it for free, right?

because they are trying their best to maximize the output graphics of the game. why? to maximize the use of blu ray's 50gig disc.

mo abot rman ang time bro na mo barato ang bluray writer sa PC... so dli jud ni malikayan ang backup capability gni... well.. i'm trying to say you can't really escape backup games. wala pa lang as of now. hehe
