3rd year na ron nako commuting between cebu and manila, at least 4 flights a month. mostly cebu pacific aron maka-save. in my observation tight kaayo ang turnaround time sa cebpac, 30 minutes lang. magsugod na gani ug delay ang usa ka flight, sunod-sunod na na^ tanan morag domino. i think they're efficient enough pero naa gyuy unavoidable circumstances. like one time tuyok-tuyok mi in-air for almost 30 minutes kay naa si gloria sa airport. tanan suceeding flights adto hurot ka delay!

Cebu Pacific certainly sucks in many areas (customer service, for one, and in a major way) but like it or not, it is Philippine Airlines that has been playing catch-up. In 2007 When they heard Cebu Pacific was going to buy brand-new turboprops to service smaller destinations, they whipped up PAL Express and leased second-hand Dash-8 Q400s. Every time Cebu Pacific goes on a seat sale, PAL does the same a week or two later.

Unfortunately, Cebu Pacific has a much better cost efficiency infrastructure that allows it to charge low fares while PAL does not. PAL has over 8,000 employees while Cebu Pacific has only 2,000. PAL's cost per seat-mile is double that of Cebu Pacific. Which means every time they match Cebu Pacific on pricing, they lose money.

Which is why PAL lost over $300-M (yes, dollars, not pesos) last year while Cebu Pacific had a net profit of over P1-Billion. While Cebu Pacific's passenger numbers continue to increase, PAL's has decreased dramatically. Cebu Pacific is now the number one airline in the Philippines in terms of passengers carried with a 51% market share.

So which airline would I rather pick? Personally, I'd go for the healthier one.

I've ridden PAL and Cebu Pacific several times this year. I've had my share of delays on both. Because Cebu Pacific usually offers the better deal on tickets, I've taken them more than PAL. To my recollection, I've traveled over a dozen times already this year and have been delayed on Cebu Pac only twice. Once because PGMA was at the airport and held all flights.

And Rodsky's right. The flight deck crew culture is known to be better in Cebu Pacific than PAL. The two accidents PAL suffered in 2007--A320 overshooting Tacloban in March then Butuan in September--were both easily avoidable and directly traceable to very fundamental deficiencies in crew resource management.

Cheap tickets should never be an excuse to provide lousy service. I hope Cebu Pacific realizes this. There was a huge management shakeup earlier this year precisely because the airlines was getting such bad press over delays and lousy service. Nevertheless, it is still far from ideal.

The airline has had a tough time addressing irate passenger complaints. The best way to avoid them in the first place is to have the planes depart on time.

    But it's never that easy.

CSR: "Sir, sorry for the delay but the turnaround aircraft requires additional servicing."

PAX: "Kasamok ba! Nganong naa pa man additional servicing-servicing?!?"

CSR: "Sir, it's because during the landing rollout on the turnaround flight the crew noticed an ECAM warning indicating REV1 INOP and LGCIU 1 fault messages and were unable to actuate Reverser 1. Although the on-side EIU did not receive a signal from the air/ground condition switch, it did detect that the TLA thrust potentiometer was already in reverse range (-3 degrees); and it automatically checked the off-side EIU TLA thrust potentiometer, RAD ALT and wheel speed and detected a reverse signal confirmation from the corresponding SEC. However, a signal was still not sent to the HMU to extend the reverser door actuators and the FADEC was not able to signal an attendant increase in thrust on either engine even though that particular airframe is SB320/78-12b compliant."

PAX: "Ahhh... mao ba? Aw, sige..." (goes back to his one-piece Jollibee Chickenjoy)

    I like this one!

So far in my experience travelling with Cebu Pacific I encounter delays during holiday season like christmas ang explanation nila for the delay is busy daw ang runways...

Customer Service wise wla pa sad ko ka encounter ug bad experience...I guess I might be lucky?

Other delays are of course due to bad weather..
