My reaction to- OUR EARLIEST ANCESTORS- Story of Evolution
Much has been said about the history and origin of mankind. The film had shown a great span of discussion. From the topic about the discovery of fossils and footprints of our ‘said’ ancestors (most of which are preserved and taken care of in Kenya as shown in the video, scene timed 1:36min), I can say that humankind is indeed curious, so curious about our history and it is important for us to hold and take great care of what has been left of us from the past. If we are ignorant about our past, we cannot be sure and will always doubt our future.
In the film, Dr. Meave Leakey was one of the people who extensively studied one unique fossil, the oldest fossil of humans. When this discovery was spread, the world of science has shaken because they can’t seem to find the link, and that this fossil should not exist. Because, this will prove the theory about man coming from apes as a mistake (stated from the video).
I think that the video also discussed the quest for the “
missing link” and that if the link is found, it would mean that the strength about the theory that man indeed came from apes will intensify and hold much evidence than ever before.
Moving on, I reckon that we should be proud of us being humans, to quote from the video
“no other creature has ever thought like us, built like us, dreamed like us”, we should be thankful and prove our worth in this world. And honestly speaking, I felt proud when I heard the narrator from the video saying that in some way, we are CHOSEN ones. We are more intelligent, we alone can aspire, we hope to control nature, and we are light-years ahead of anything that has ever lived before. But how did we evolve?
We have very large brains, and they say that tracing the evolution of the brain will give us the answers( the big brain theory thing). I think that it will take longer years to fully understand the pattern of the brain’s evolution. The brain system alone is very complex, and studying a complex field isn’t handy.
The video also talked much about “Lucy”, how her species emerged from a single elite line of “super creatures” that are so special and “adaptation”. I realized that long ago for people to survive, they must adapt to the environment and also take hold of “dominance”.
I say that as a student, the best that I can do for now, is just to do well in my field, expand my knowledge, contribute small helping ideas and continue searching for the answers that lie ahead.
