you can visit his shop so you can see some raw and finish products there. my first ever guitar (a replica of a Jackson Dinky Pro) was made by edz way back 1992. dili pa power tools iya gamit. manual tigib pa. hehehe. power tools na karon.

i'm also an architect so i know wood (but i'm no expert on wood nor guitars. hilig lang ni nako).

the best available wood available in cebu for a solid body guitar would have to be white mahogany. make sure the timber was cut vertically. you will know it if the wood grains run parallel and not on a concentric pattern. also, make sure it has been kiln dried. you will know if it is so if it doesn't feel moist and it smells like dried sawdust and not like newspaper or soil. a properly kiln dried wood also has a powdery feel on the surface and wala'y buhok-buhok.

for the neck, apitong is a hardwood and would retain i's shape longer IF it has already been cured. newly cut apitong will warp even if it has been kiln-dried. look for apitong that is at least 2-3 years cut. problem with apitong is it's heavy. a lighter option would be white mahogany. just make sure there is a truss rod to keep the neck straight.

for the fingerboard, indian rosewood is good enough although ebony is nicer but terribly expensive.

number of frets is standard so don't mess around with it. the width of the neck usually depends on the nut that is available. Edz had graphite nuts before that keeps the strings in tune longer pero hurot na ang iyang stock. standard Telecasters has a slimmer neck than a Les Paul. depende ra na sa imong preference. you can test the neck before it is finished so you can request to have a slimmer fit if you like.

If maka source out ka, try procuring seymours or alinco humbuckers. The Korean pickups available here are ok but if you are willing to spend then splurge on the pickups.

some customers put Gibson or Fender logos on the headstock aron ingnon nga original. but consider putting the Abyss logo of Edz to identify it as a custom guitar.

lastly, invest in a good hardcase. ayaw og salig sa soft guitar bags kay wala dyud nay ayo. always consider your musical instrument as an investment.

Good point. I think it would be more (re)sellable if for e.g. Edz na lang ang ibutang (if he's that popular in Cebu) than put Gibson or Fender coz paklaro lang gyud nga imit. I'm also concerned about being able to resell it in the future.

Thanks sir @archnacorda. You've given me enough info to get me started with the right specs. I really appreciate the help.

Salamat kaayo sa inyo mga bro! Daghan gyud mo natabang sa akong pangutana. Ako unyang suroyun didto ang Edz shop. Meanwhile, mag-gather sad ko enough specs to come up with the right guitar.

I'm really a fan of Les Paul - although I haven't actually held one in my hands - but I guess it fits me with the kind of music I go for also. Its creamy, thick, deep tone is what I really really love since I'm practicing blues and am a big fan of Led Zep.

Do you have any idea about Les Paul specs? Like the headstock? The fretboard? The neck? What causes its deep and thick tone (aside from the pickups of course)?

If naa gyud ka ika afford. go for branded na lang even if second hand or gikan sa surplus shop. kay lisud kaayo i-resell ang custom made. kung mahalin man gani ang custom made sometimes less than 1/4 sa price kay ang mga buyers mostly brand gyud tan-awon bahalag old na kaayo.

the deep tone could be from the fact that gibson les pauls are heavy by guitar standards which adds darkness... the heavy body tends to overturn the the guitar when you're standing making the guitar look strapped low, ala slash, jimmy page, and everybody else with a les paul... nya shorter sad iya scale length than the strats, making it darker still (they said that it has to do with the vibrating length)...

ang manghod sa akong kauban sa office ng pa custom kang edz og les paul. i've seen it just before it went out sa shop and it was excellently made, really like the original, except the hardware of course... excellent custom, which means mahal2x sad...

mahogany body and neck, tiger maple top + rosewood fretboard ako gpa gamit
