When people read the news, people would not care to read the details, and just by reading the headlines wherein tommy is starting a quarrel again and again and again,,that really discourages most cebuanos..believe me guyz, sorry but that is the truth..im not a pro-gwen or anti-tomas..i know what tommy has had done for cebu city, but of course he is not entitled to take the credit solely because it was actually lito osmena who did the ceboom thing, and tommy was just the facilitator of lito's projects.well, basing on my studies with how gwen handles the p.r. thing, she is superbly excellent. remember guyz, politics is really about perception. with the way gwen is doing things, she is doing it excellently.tomas and gwen really have different forte and styles as well. their politics is really well defined, gwen as a woman and tommy as his man. historically, a male politician is really fond of leaving legacies, physical infrastructure that they can leave behind..whereas female politicians usually do the nurturing and sustainability..and judging from their projects, tommy has SRP,which is his "statue of liberty", his pet while gwen was very busy doing all the maintenance related and nurturing works in government..garcia was right all along to develop provincial properties, and gwen doesn't have to do reclamation projects as the province has a lot of properties inside and outside the city as well. i guess, tommy's and gwen's mistakes are just very minor when compared to the magnitude of their responsibilities and political power, although these mistakes might be unbearable for us ordinary mortals.but its obvious gwen is a better manager than tommy although tommy might be the better administrator..gwen has shown her politics excellently and she has so much political weight that one cannot really resist her. i think cebuanos cannot imagine gwen's absence in cebu's political arena..for example, try to think if there would be an elections where osmena and garcia can exactly be opponents..it seems cebu can have gwen even taking tomas out of the picture, but never will it be that cebu will only have tomas without gwen in the picture..see my point?
well said. very well said...this is the kind of argument that is needed in this forum...

ayawg lagot pre/mre. ask the private companies instead. it's becoz Honda, Yamaha, Ozracing, etc wanted to privately organize these events themselves instead. they decided not to count in the gov't's help (well except w/ the permits and things like that). i cannot count how many motocross these companies have even sponsored na sa Parkmall recently...

compared sa kabayo, naa ba diay nay brand ang kabayo to speak of? unsa Red Horse or Colt 45? hehe

besides, murag fitting rapud ang horse events to the Province.

if you really want to get the overall picture about cebu's political history, PLEASE READ THE BOOK ON PHILIPPINE BOSSISSM, CAPITALISM AND COERCION (im not so sure about the title of the book). It really talks about political dynasties and bossism, about the ways of congressional political dynasties such as the duranos, martinezes, abineses and provincial dynasties of the cuencos and osmenas. The book is really credible, I assure you. It is researched by a British Political Scientist named John Sidel, and supported by PCIJ or PHILIPPINE CENTER FOR INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISM. If you dont have the book, you can have partial readings on the internet. type something about OSMENA BOSSISM. If you read, you will come to realize how great cheaters Osmenas are, and I am not joking. It talks about their connections with the Lus, Chiongbians, Aboitizes, Lhuilliers, Escanos, Aznars, Larranagas, Gokongweis, Gotianuns,Del Mars, Villalons, Ayalas, Sys and many more. It also mentioned about how they were able to monopolize trade and politics in Cebu for a long time and ably balance their very selfish interests with so called public interests(yes, they were very successful in their cover ups, because media was not so influential before as it is now..that's why i call politics as a game of perception). It also mentioned about how the osmenas get so much money out of the Friar lands, how Don sergio osmena used his power and authority in disposing about 10000 hectares of Friar lands in Cebu city, talisay and minglanilla while using their connections and political power, how they made their realty company purchased almost all friar lands using their positions in capitol, city hall, senate and congress especially during the time of Serging Osmena Jr, and most especially, how Serging managed to monopolize the bidding, political accomodation and actual making of the North Reclamation Project where SM is built now. I think most people didnt know that during the time of Serging, it was he who was the mayor of the city when it was conceptualized, and as mayor, he did the bidding but actually it was his construction company who did the reclamation works and when the reclamation was done, through his influence use his power to let the council pass an ordinance selling the reclamation lots to a realty company so that the city can earn, but actually it was his realty company who bought most of the lots there. so see how cheaters they are?not to forget how lito osmena get money from the cebu business park, cebu transcentral highway, MEPZ 2, Balamban Industrial Park, Naga Township, his landholdings in Argao and Moalboal, in Borbon, Sogod and Carnasa Island in Daan Bantayan not to mention his other properties in the Philippines and abroad. I think it would be unfair to focus the attention on CICC..I Gwen did the right job in giving all the pertinent documents to Leo Lastimosa regarding CICC Accounting. Logic dictates that Lastimosa was one of the most bitter critics of Gwen, but Gwen took the risk to give all documents to Lastimosa, so that means Gwen is confident of what she is doing..You know guys please develop the wisdom to see things which are unseen and to read the message left unspoken. Plus, if you try to study cebu's political history, it was always been divisive, so for a century under the rules of osmenas and cuencos, cebu really did not achieve all the projects that it needs. Understand? So please understand that that is the magnitude of work that needs to be done by Gwen as Governor, and so far, so good. There can never be perfect governance ok? I believe Gwen took the right direction basing on her projects and vision. Im not basing it only on what can be read on the internet or if these articles were administered by Gwen or Tommy.I am not particular on what people would say about gwen or tommy..I am more on their collective contribution as leaders. Comparing it with Tommy's almost two decades as Cebu City Mayor and with Gwen's 5 years as Governor, I am sure gwen can give tommy a run for his money. besides, cebu city is better to managed that the entire province because of these reasons..1.area-wise, the city is much smaller 2. income-wise, i suppose all of you know that big taxpayers are here in the city so more money can be collected in the city even with its small area 3. the city has autonomy politically and this has been the arrangement since 1930s so its not a question that the city is prosperous..besides the 1987 constitution was tailor-fitted to address the political needs of the osmenas, in particular tommy controlling the city while lito controlling the province thats why i said this because mandaue city is highly urbanized but its under the control of capitol so i think that is very peculiar..remember that the osmenas aquinos and lopezes are very close. 4. the design of the 1987 constitution is very absurd wherein highly urbanized cities are independent and they act like they are better than governors. i think most people dont have the correct understanding of the dynamics of our constitution and politics. it is correct to say that the city must be politically independent but only internally, not that it will act as if its higher than Capitol. Regarding the city ordinance prohibiting development of lots, its very obvious its political, because if that is the case, then it would be good to say that tommy can also control the usage of giddy's lots or litslyp's lots if their lots are in the city just because tommy doesnt like them..it doesnt make sense because that is unconstitutional..those lots have titles and so constitutionally has all the legal rights ok? and 5. the city has more taxing powers because it is the body who directly deals with the people unlike the capitol wherein they have to deal first with cities and municipalities under its jurisdiction and of course capitol's taxing powers are limited only on realty taxes, quarry taxes, mining taxes and the irony there is that even component cities dont share their income on realty and business taxes to the capitol but they vote for the governor..so its really very ironic..but of course as you see gwen did the right course..and to the development of the city, didnt u realyz that its only this 2007 to 2009 that we can see obvious developments in the city right now that they have a serious political squabbles with gwen but it was not seen before tommy's term (excluding lito's ceboom time)? So that means Cebu's development was political and i can therefore safely conclude that all this developments are because of gwen because gwen has challenged tommy so much and same thing with radazas and cortes because they are afraid gwen would really intrude into their political territories..so i guess tommy was really wrong when he parted ways with gwen .thats the biggest mistake of his life..its really obvious, gwen has the upperhand..its like there's no election for governor and she can focus her attention to cebu city, mandaue city and lapulapu city, and just imagine if the garcias will join forces with the gullases and the political opposition of cebu city, osmena cuenco and del mar are on their last terms, 2010 is a presidential election so meaning theres a greater possibility for a fair elections and just imagine gwen pabling pj and other opposition leaders in the city personally do the campaign inside the city....get my point?

again, u r a breath of fresh air to this forum. well researched i should say. hapit ko nalibat ug binasa.

to all forumers, i recommend u read and digest carefully. u will learn a lot of knowledge from this, especially those youngsters who doesn't even have an inch of a clue to Cebu's political history...basin pa cguro gani mausab pa inyong tinuho-an or relihiyon tungod ani...hehe

remember guys, Gwen was well-loved by Ormocanons due to her tireless help during the height of the Ormoc tragedy. and she was voted twice as Cebu governor as if there was no election at all. she effectively destroyed the governatorial competition.

if she, together w/ the Cebu biz leaders can pull off a whammy against the Big 3 oil firms' predatory and cartel-like behavior by effectively winning (kung mka daug, this will be a first sa Pinas!) over the case (for the benefit of Cebu), she will soar like an eagle. i tell u.

sa dagan sa mga panghitabo karon, way laing mka labaw na sa kahawod ni Mayor Tomas Osmena.

before, when Talisay City claimed part of SRP, he shooed away all Talisay vendors from the Carbon Market.

and now, while he's at it, he shooed all Cebu Province residents from getting medical and health services from CCMC. he wants to provide a multicab to transport them instead to Capitol. wow!

when faced w/ questions about illegal towing, he prefers to defend the towing companies instead.

and when faced w/ questions about the anomalous FLI deal, he turns the other way by "pulutizing" Mike Rama (gihimo ug pulutan) via squid tactic. anything as long as mawala ang isyu.

kung ang uban pa pasultihon, TOM IS BECOMING RUTHLESS AND RECKLESS. He's not like that before...kuyaw kaayo ni cya kung mka away ug politiko kay hasta constituents amongon niya.

Is this an after-effect of your chemo therapy Mayor Tom?
