historical context-wise, this is my two cents worth on Rizal.

Bonifacio is a hero, ang dili hero para nako kay si quezon, basaha iyang quote:
"I prefer a country run like hell by Filipinos to a country run like heaven by Americans. Because, however bad a Filipino government might be, we can always change it."
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manuel_L._Quezon#Quotes

What can you say about him?

will Quezon was not really a hero.

hopeful ra siya ang gives trust to the Filipino people that they can do it... maybe we can... but it just takes time.

    Just because.....

...Boni is poor, and Rizal is rich...
...Boni is illiterate and Rizal is educated...
...Boni is not a chick magnet and Rizal is appealing...
...Boni can fight with a weapon, but Rizal fights with a pen...
...Boni implies that action is best, but Rizal chooses words...
...Boni prefers revolution (freedom of the Pinoys from the Spaniards), but Rizals wants reform (makes Philippines as one of Spanish state)...
...Boni was killed by his fellowmen but Rizal was killed by foreigners....

...that made him less to be called a national hero and be hailed as Loser. That is very insulting.

Why compare Hong Kong to Philippines? Ah, because of Ocean Park, Disneyland, and that "a la lil Paris" road? Every country has corrupt officials. Besides, HK citizens are very disciplined. Some Pinoys are not THAT disciplined. You could see them peeing anywhere or cutting the line. I know there will be lotsa fire and brimstone when I said those things. But heck, that's what I've noticed. Just be noted of the word SOME. I didnot mean to imply ALL.

Perhaps, some are trapped with the American Dream or thought of DNA-bringer of blue eyes, pale skin, endless freckles, blonde hair, towering heights, and BIG physique that's why they chose to be slave. If that's the outlook of some people, sing the chorus of Britney Spears' I'm a Slave for You Â*

This has been the ageless debate. Oh well, I've already said my point. Enough said.

OT: God I pray that wannabe authors be a bit more tactful in posting the titles of the topic threads in the future.

Why consider Andres Bonifacio a loser? True, he was just a common man, but he founded the Katipunan, became the Supremo, led the revolution. True he was betrayed and executed by his fellow Filipinos but it doesn't make him a loser, a tragic figure-- a martyr to the cause.

All I can say is both men are men who have their own unique positive and negative qualities. They're both essentially different but they do share a lot of qualities. Primarily, they have made their contributions to our country's history. I don't think its a good thing to use them a figureheads for a debate. There is already too much contention.

I don't care who's the national hero. If you want to change from Rizal to Bonifacio. Go ahead, its your right as a citizen. Don't fight the law, change the law. All I say is let's focus on the positive qualities worth emulating from both men. Let's not twist their memories and their philosophies to serve our own present needs. They did not die for that, hell they sure didn't live for that.
