well in my own opinion.. any acts of commemoration, acts of conversation esp to the unseen, dead, etc... is a form of prayer..

kidding aside and back to serious mode: prayer is actually a higher form of Self-talk. when you have become still and quieted your mind, some would say you'd be able to talk to God face to face. but for me, you're actually opening yourself and let your Higher Self manifest some more. but it also depends on the intentions of the one praying.
