The misunderstanding between TIM and Smartmatic has already been ironed out. Their "misunderstanding" involved who would have control over the finances of the joint venture and it was said to have been fixed by referring to the original provisions of the joint venture. This means that the automated elections in 2010 will push through. Nonetheless, the two companies were reprimanded by the legislators for causing panic due to the sudden turn out of events. We can now breathe because the fear of going back to manual elections has subsided, at this time.

    Automated Election: Are we ready?

    Automated Election: Are we ready?
"In the side of indigenous people it would be hard for them to vote if the election will be done automatically because some of them are illiterate."

Maybe. That's the one thing that I can think of as the reason why these people who are against automation insist that the Philippines is not yet ready. Like charter change, if not now when will we start automated elections? When all the world has left us behind with the manual method? I don't see anything unconstitutional with the automated elections. The Constitution merely provided that the citizens shall have the right to vote. It is silent as to what method should be employed in casting and counting our votes.

As what one of the COMELEC commissioners said, it has been manual elections to us ever since. It's high time for us to improve our way through automated elections. Questioning it because we want to maintain the status quo is a bit naive. Why would anyone stop it just because we are uncertain that it will be feasible? To think that other countries have been using it for quite some time now, I'd like to think we can also have automated polls in our own country.

As for me, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, should there be any. We just need to remain vigilant if we want to protect our votes.
