brad, i am only giving you a reference movie, because if you want real science, sometimes, its difficult to imagine and picture out..

did you know that tumor/cancel cells can grow teeth inside? imagine a tumor in your brain, and sooner or later, if dili pa ka mamatay, mu-grow ang teeth on top of your brain inside your skull?

i hope they will show that in House..

They have faith on the people behind.. doctors, nurses, family, friends... A patient puts her/his faith towards the people too. Also, a patient has the will to survive. I've seen people who are cancer free but their faith is a constant struggle. Medications are no exception.
I ask you trip wats the ODDS? had they lost hope, they will cease the interest of life... Think about it...
Faith plays a vital role as to encourage patients... to press on... As healthworker you capitalize on HOPE... to make them believe... Now, How did evolution help? then you will say medicine... of course medicine is given with or without faith medicine is there. Can evolution provide FAITH or HOPE? You want to replace it with evolution? you are starting to take away the chance of life... Its too early to replace Faith for Evolution.

because of evolution, we are able to trace the origin of some diseases and sickness and provide better technology and medicines to combat those diseases..

evolution provides hope and faith brad!

    look-up computational evolutionary biology..

It's ok to believe and not to believe in EVOLUTION!

    GOD BLESS!

Unravelling Selection Shifts Among Foot-and-Mouth Disease Virus (FMDV) Serotypes

Abstract: FMDV virus has been increasingly recognised as the most economically severe animal virus with a remarkable degree of antigenic diversity. Using an integrative evolutionary and computational approach we have compelling evidence for heterogeneity in the selection forces shaping the evolution of the seven different FMDV serotypes. Our results show that positive Darwinian selection has governed the evolution of the major antigenic regions of serotypes A, Asia1, O, SAT1 and SAT2, but not C or SAT3. Co-evolution between sites from antigenic regions under positive selection pinpoints their functional communication to generate immune-escape mutants while maintaining their ability to recognise the host-cell receptors. Neural network and functional divergence analyses strongly point to selection shifts between the different serotypes. Our results suggest that, unlike African FMDV serotypes, serotypes with wide geographical distribution have accumulated compensatory mutations as a strategy to ameliorate the effect of slightly deleterious mutations fixed by genetic drift. This strategy may have provided the virus by a flexibility to generate immune-escape mutants and yet recognise host-cell receptors. African serotypes presented no evidence for compensatory mutations. Our results support heterogeneous selective constraints affecting the different serotypes. This points to the possible accelerated rates of evolution diverging serotypes sharing geographical locations as to ameliorate the competition for the host.

    Computational evolutionary biology

Comparative analysis of genome sequences of different species such as human and other primates to compare the divergence and convergence of sequence in a large scale with the aid of computing algorithm. Such study will benefit the human being overall in understanding ourselves and improving human health.

Computational modeling and simulation, which builds computational models for gene and protein network, cellular processes, cell behavior and biological systems. Much like systems biology, which aims to model large-scale biological interaction networks.

Derive differential equations of genetic network in cell-cell competition. All known elements including genes and gene products are linked within cells and in between cells. The linkage including gene expression, protein-protein interaction and enzymatic reactions, and various positive and negative feedback controls. Experimental approaches are often taken to modify or confirm the prediction or conclusions. Such study would promote our understanding of the group behaviors and dynamics for a large scale of molecules.

    (2) Model organisms for human disease study

Model organisms are extensively studied by a large group of scientists to understand particular biological phenomena, with the expectation that discoveries made in the organism model will provide insight into the workings of other organisms. In particular, model organisms are widely used to explore potential causes and treatments for human disease when human experimentation would be unfeasible or unethical. This strategy is made possible by the common descent of all living organisms, and the conservation of metabolic and developmental pathways and genetic material over the course of evolution.

That's about it kebz, ODDS. the great odds is medicine.

We don't capitalize hope kebz, we visualize hope. Because if you said capitalize, we are not taking advantage of a patient. We give them hope to get well and they put their faith to that hope so they get better. So how did evolution help? I don't even have to answer this question kebz, common sense na lang. Kebz, medicine and faith goes hand in hand and of course evolution provides hope and faith. Faith for the people to achieve things to happen. And hope on evolution will provide cure for those people who are suffering dreaded diseases. And I don't even have to replace evolution kebz, it's already there since. Evolution is not about taking the chance of life - that's you misconception. It even helps to procreate life. Although, at your early stage... your understanding about evolution isn't there yet... that makes the rest of us too.
