Let's say that scientist cannot promise... what exactly they said that they promised something? I can tell you though, scientists didn't promise anything but progress... you have cars, internet, electricity, airplanes, boats... that is science at work... they didn't promise that but they improved your life. What they discovered in Mars is not a hoax but possibility of a livable planet. If earth gets crowded, that's one possible place to relocate some of the people because they discovered "water". Science didn't ask you to be a believer too... science gives you a chance to make your life better. If there isn't science, what then?
