Default Koi Keeping for Average Joe

Let me share to you guys on how to make a simple koi pond. This is a low cost mini koi pond.
Im sharing this so that people who have a tight budget like me can still enjoy this wonderful hobby. . .

    4 days construction
    materials - 1.3k
    labor - 1.6k
    pump - 2.6k

    day1(AM)- dug about 1.5 ft.

day 1(PM)- day 2(PM) - construction of the pond and filter chambers

    3 chamber pump fed filter

day 3 - layouting the pipes.

day4 - finishing and waterproofing the pond,

after 1 week. . its time for testing

    3 chamber filter at work

Pond Construction is a success. . . no leaks!!!

after a week i released my first batch of kois in their new home. .

Now, allow mo to share my filtration setup, this is also a low cost filtration setup. No need to buy expensive Mats and UV sterilizers.

1st chamber is composed of mosquito net(mosquitiro), orchid net and fiber wool. this is good for mechanical filtration

2nd chamber is composed of chopped electrical hose, pebbles, rubber matting and plants for biological filtration.

chopped electrical hose from surplus shop

    rubber matting

    pebbles

    ready for planting

    Gotu Kola plant. . .

the plant is a very effective filter media. . just take a look at the roots up close.

clear water even in direct sunlight

the happy kois. . . no water change for almost 5 months.

    happy koi keeping. . .
