you should be concerning more on how to take care the hardware. any commonly used software will do. taking care the hardware is more significant since its failure mostly is irreversible specially talking about hard drives.

    true.

for maximum reliability.use SSD for ur 2.5HDD backup disk

no parts that rotates.lesser parts to shake.

    SSD? ouch!mahal pa kaau ron..hehe
@aditti: if the price difference between the disks bundled w/ backup software and disks w/o the software is significant then just download free backup software. also, it depends upon how you backup your files. if, like butitoy, you can manually backup your data then get the much cheaper HDD.

the first thing you have to do is organize...make a folder for your dad's files (e.g. My Dad's Folder). then within that folder you can make additional folders to contain different types of data like for audio, video and pictures. in this way you only have to backup the main folder for your dad...another and better way is if you partition you HDD...in which case instead of making another folder for your dad, an entire partition will be allocated for his files..finally, you can try to defragment your HDD. defragmenting may free up some disk space.

    1. use raid setup for automatic recovery
    2. external for manual backup

    3. i'd go for DVD backups. it's a lot cheaper.

i have not relied on any automatic backups.
except for high quality software for our company,
that takes automatic and intelligently takes daily snapshot of my data.

    thanks guys

@Seiryuu - very sensible.. i tried to organize the files before but he just ended up confused and said it takes him 3 hours to look for his file daw... so i don't plan to do any reorganization anytime soon... i will just let his files run wild..haha the new external hdd is all for him ra... so no need to partition cgro coz tagsaan mi. his files runs 40gb upwards thats why i kinda need automatic backup that would automatically save any newly created files lang daun.

@jiro - yeah...ok ang dvd backups unta pero confusing man to search and compare the old and new files in each folder.. maayo unta akoa rang files coz sayun ra. what software does your company use, if i may ask? thanks
