That question seems to imply that the only reason for exploring on the moon is for humankind to benefit from various "offshoot" commercial products that the present-day masses consume (i.e. velcro, etc.). What most people miss is that the exploration is in fact being done, to find out and refine methods/techniques for space exploration, in the hopes that one day, humankind can find alternate worlds to live in. The reason why most people miss this, is because the average human being's "scope of importance" spans only his lifetime, and he tends not to think beyond a hundred years or so, after his death. Ergo, he tends to want direct benefits (to himself and his immediate descendants) from efforts like space exploration, which to him, seem to be "a useless waste of resources and money".

The current objectives of space exploration are echoes of the wishes made by Tsiolkovsky and Robert Goddard, best summed up by the following statement:

"The earth is the cradle of humanity. But one cannot live in a cradle forever. - Konstantin Tsiolkovsky"

I was asking a simple question and got slapped.

Anyway(fahh hayyn!) you got a point, it is true, I am just exercising that fact. But my question is left unanswered, is there or is there none?

As for Goddard, "well so much for the original literature remade by Tom Cruise", came space technology.

If you felt you got slapped, then sincere apologies. Whenever I make a reply, I do not usually direct it to just the previous post's author, but to people in general, so it was nothing personal, more of a general info thing.

As to your question, just Google "benefits of space program", or if you're too lazy to do it, here:

It does rotate on its axis. A "day" on the moon is equal to roughly 14/15 days. A "night on the moon is equal to roughly 14/15 days. 15+15 = 30 = 1 month. Which is why we call the moon, the moon

Yes, one side of the moon always faces the earth, but that doesn't mean (based on my explanation above) that the far side (the side that faces away from the earth) doesn't receive any sunlight (so yes, the term "dark side of the moon" is a misnomer, an erroneous notion).

So the best place for a moonbase would be at the poles, for two main reasons:

    1. There will always be sunlight (needed if the base is to be primarily solar powered)

    2. The chances of finding water from permanently shadowed craters will be higher.

sayop gyud diay... sorry about that. "dark side" relative to earth. as it revolves around earth there will come a time nga ang "dark side" will face the sun, esp. solar eclipse.

    naa gyud diay sa wiki:
The side of the Moon that faces Earth is called the near side, and the opposite side the far side. The far side is often inaccurately called the "dark side".

bitaw no, preferred gyud diay sa poles.

Why were you expecting a summary from me, specifically?

Again, the reasons why we post items of information in this section of iStorya, is for other people to be aware of certain goings on in the scientific as well as technological communities. Asking "baiting" questions that seem to demand attention from the moderators or from other individuals who like to stir up controversy, is being provocative.

Ergo, if you had the option pala to check Google, then there was no reason for you to have posted such an inquiry. If you're looking to stir controversy or spark some debate, because it amuses/entertains you, I advise you to please steer away from the science boards. Thank you and have a good day.

    WOW.

I was honestly, sincerely and simply was just asking a simple summary of basic technological commodity from space exploration and I got this. Nice. Do I have to put a smiley?
I'm not asking for attention, and Oh I never noticed that you are a moderator(lol sorry not noticing and CONGRATULATIONS), it was, again, an honest, sincere and simple inquiry, for the sakes of people, who may not digest the main reason you have given, and for my part did not even realized that, that idea is the reason.
Just a simple list of technology, was it so hard.

    Fine keep your sci-board.
