    Default Hard Disk Problem (Upgrade)

    hi,

I have socket 1 motherboard with pentium III 500mhz, 256MB RAM and 20GB HDD. Since i have not enough space for my HDD i want to replace my 20GB with 40GB hdd. My problem now is it wouldn't detect my 40GB. During boot preocess it only display "Primary Master Detecting". I already waited almost an half an hour but nothing happend. I also try the 40GB i have in other PC and it detect in BIOS and in windows. I also tried copying and pasting data to that 40GB HDD to make sure it works and their is no problem i encounter. But if i install this 40GB in my PC which has socket 1 mobo it wouldn't detect the HDD. I can not say that the problem is the IDE cable since i tried that cable using the 20GB HDD in socket 1 mobo and it works but the time i change it to 40GB problem occur which is can not detect the HDD.

Please help, i need it badly.

set the jumper pin to MASTER.

Already did that sir. i also change the jumper setting to slave from master and master to slave but same problem i encounter. Would this slot 1 mobo support 40GB HDD? i mean would it recognized the whole 40GB? i heard before that some mobo can not recognize the 100% capacity of new HDD if the mobo is to much old.

dude i don't know, you never told us what kinda motherboard you have. maybe you should tell us the brand and model?

btw... do you have an Award BIOS? is your motherboard older than year 1999.
if it is then the BIOS can only handle up to 32GB HDD.

if you really want to keep that motherboard and want to use above 30GB HDD, you should buy an Ultra ATA/133 PCI Controller
