But any recovery would be extremely tricky, not only because of the depth, but also because of powerful currents and storms in the zone.

Without key information from the Airbus 330's missing data recorders, investigators have focused on the possibility that external speed monitors — Pitot tubes — iced over and gave false readings to the plane's computers as it flew into thunderstorms.

An important part of the investigation relies on a burst of 24 automatic messages the plane sent during the last minutes of the flight. The signals showed the plane's autopilot was not on, officials said, but it was not clear if the autopilot had been switched off by the pilots or had stopped working due to conflicting airspeed readings.

The L-shaped metal Pitot tubes jut from the wing or fuselage of a plane, and are usually heated to prevent icing. The pressure of air entering the tubes lets internal sensors measure the speed and angle of flight. A malfunctioning tube could mislead computers controlling the plane to dangerously accelerate or decelerate.

i've been following this news also.. sa ako nasabtan sa CBS news gniha, they're still looking for the black box..

only the Black Box can shed light to this unfortunate event.

the hard thing for solving the puzzle of what really happen is that the black box (which is actually orange in color) is way down below the ocean over 2km deep...plus the uncertainty of where it is right now due to the ocean currents below that swept it away from the impact site...

im pretty sure that airbus has the latest flying instrument...now the question is why would they maintain that altitude for in fact they could fly above the storm @ 33K feet or more just above enough the storm...by all means before they engage within the storm the pilot already know that they will be heading a storm if any, plus the auto pilot was not engage as per the authority of air france is concern...but in fairness to the pilot's IMHO their must be a more serious problem than the storm i guess knowing not even the button of the autopilot has not been press or engage... just my cents...

Islamic terrorists were in Air France flight 447 - International Business Times
Reports have emerged that two of the Air France flight 447 passengers were Islamic terrorist suspects. The French investigation team have not completely ruled out the role of terrorist in the demise of the plane.

The connection was identified by the French secret service agency while working on the passenger list of the Airbus A330 from Rio de Janeiro to Paris.

The intelligence officials had told the Paris weekly L'Express of this development.

The flight disappeared from radar several hundred miles off the coast of Brazil in stormy weather. The flight sent numerous automatic alerts to the Air France headquarters stating the failure of onboard computers and electronics.

The flight broke apart midair and crashed into the Atlantic and so far faulty speed sensors were blamed for the crash.

It is possible that this news of suspected Islamic terrorists could be a coincidence, nevertheless, the French probe team have not fully ruled out the role of terrorism.

ang ako nasabtan lang sa news kay nagka malfunction daw ang speed sensor sa eroplano.
mao tong wala nakahibaw ang pilots if sakto ba ilang speed while crossing thru that storm, dapat naa man jud daw appropriate nga speed if naay turbulence para mosugakod ang eroplano.

pero dapat makit-an na ang blackbox to rule out all speculations. a US Navy submarine is on it's way to the crash site to help. 30 days ra daw ang tagal atong blackbox underwater.
