robotman and dieseldust you're both still young dudes. when i was your age, bands at that time were the days of grunge or alternative like nirvana, live, pearl jam, bush, green day or even silverchair. remember every song has its own story.
thanks for your story dude, its really informative considering nobody has told me this historical background of glam bands and stories behind them. this thread title should be changed to hair bands and stories never told before. hehe. how bout that michael jackson beat it riff. why did evh worked with michael jackson? i knew it was steve lukather on rhythm. let me guess, tom werman or ted templeman or whoever is eddies manager, negotiated with john landis.
bout that cover albums of dokken, world covered with claw, i just seen it on amazon.com. but its my fault im not really sure which album has that cover. i also got liitle aint enough and tony mcalpine albums. recomended by my evh die- hard fan friend. yes youre right that tony mcalpine was 2nd guitar on vai g3. your trusty trio is very cool man let me tell you this again. and to be honest i love having rv3 in honor of evh. take your time of course. eddies sound passes through a marshall plexi if i recall correctly what ive read on the mag. i like that sound and the reverb can do it all. todays rv5 has no delay. when i first heared ou812, i reacted why does eddie changed his style and sound on every album? and i answer...because its not the previous ones. or simply just saying his style is changing. any of these silly questions may have exact answers somewhere beyond my knowledge. i dont know if sammy has something to do with this. eddie cant drive 55.. the record ou812 is just amazing. "let me take you down, i will show you all around. down in cabo" and this "she was a sucker... sucker in a 3 piece".. bro im just curious.. if youre not having many things to do, please post in this thread a pic of your guitars. i can start to imagine you as eddie or lynch.. once again thanks and keep telling greatest hits stories. fame or whatever glamorous.. and lastly since we got the same name. wel call ourselves ohhh jimmy...

Speaking of Lukather, me and my GF are huge Toto fans. We even saw them in Cebu for their "Falling in Between Tour" Luke is an amazing guitar player. He's a close friend of EVH

My favorite Toto records are Tambu and The 7th One

evh's appearance on the mj's thriller album, particularly in the song 'beat it' was the brainchild of mj's co-producer quincy jones...jones wanted to write a song with a hard rock edge that would capture the high school & college kids fanbase...& when he read the mj's lyrics to beat it, he knew it was the 1...jones called evh & asked him to do the solo...to which evh agreed to contribute a solo without a fee (absolutely for free!!!)...initaially, evh & lukather made a heavier version of the song...however jones mellowed it down, minimizing steve's distorted guitar rythm...& the rest is history...

ou812 finds vh receeding to a dull, less vibrant, more laid back tonality & feel...both albumwise & guitarwise...somehow we find the band sound significantly softened, as well as thier general approach to music...most likely this can be attributable to hagar's songwriting influence...& though this album still reached no.1, & managed to churn out reasonable rockers - mine all mine, a.f.u., source of infection, it sits at the bottom of my list of vh albums...

i'd have to turn down your suggestion bro...sure, i posted my peds, but that's as far as i'd go really...this is a forum, & for reasons of privacy, & some other reasons of my own, i'd rather not post pics of my 2 wives...i'm too seloso...hehe...

trivia : during the recording of scorpion's 'blackout' album, meine had trouble with his vocal cords...don dokken was called in to provide guide & backing vocals while meine recovered...meine made a timely recovery & was able to complete recording the album...dokken's back-up vocals remained on several tracks on that album...

upon the album's completion, scorpion's producer dieter dierks found that there were still a few hours of studio time left, which he gave to dokken...don used the free studio time to record the 'breaking the chains' demo with lynch, brown, & juan croucier (who later left to join ratt)...

toto is a great band...& through the years these guys have turned out their own style of sentimental melodies brewed to perfection with lukather's guitar presence which gives the sounds just enough grit & edge to make it rock...

killer band line-up are : david paich-keys, jeff porcaro-skins, steve porcaro-bottom end, steve lukather-main strings & throat, & throat belter bobby kimbal...

fave tunes include : child's anthem, hold the line, i'll supply the love, georgy porgy, i won't hold you back, i'll be over you, rosanna, 99...

dont change title of this thread man. wel keep talking until the world stops making music. lets finish what we started. its alright to have some out of topics here and just place indications. threadstarter did a great job on this. dieseldust bro you said you watched toto played live here. good for you but is it true that most people were not happy of the concert. or people were just expecting much from them. toto didnt play more of those popular songs.
i respect your privacy man its ok not to reveal your guitars. unless of course you will sell it. on meanstreet i guess you know how to do some slapback. and in sinners swing, i love the rhythm. lots of cool songs push comes to shove sounds like the erotic guitar part of eddie. of course, eddie brought so much more to the table than finger tapping in 1978. whammy bar dive bombs, scratching the strings in conjunction with a phaser effect, use of open strings and more. some guitar players of today still tend to copy him. its like 30 years since the release of their debut album and there has not been an album since that has captured so much musical energy. i sometimes think i was neil zlozower. on ice cream man its nice cover country song. by the way bro i made a mistake. it was not wayne charvel who made a replica of the frankenstrat. instead it was chip ellis. also from charvel company. sorry my bad..
i dont have news bout that blackout album. don temporarily was with scorpions.. thats cool. i cannot imagine don with german band.. dont want to find out..just want to get out.. and the warsound of tricycle drivers... its up to you.. to fight the evil in your mind. i wonder why they never play live china white, you give me all i need, is there anybody there.. not even on soundtracks in any movie except used on thrilling parts of that 80s sitcom iskul bukol.. love the outro solo of still loving you. play that for me man and keep blasting.. hey hey hey (am-g) hey hey hey (am-g) divebomb...

you got it!!! & on through the night we shall go...initially i envisioned this thread to be a medium of informative exchange for us istoryans who dig hard rock & heavy metal bands & their music, particularly those that thrived during the 80s rock scene...& so it shall be...hehe...

toto...i have toto's greatest hits dvd as well as their 25th anniversary live in amsterdam dvd...boy! do these guys have balls...steve lukather is far from being a guitar virtuoso...but the chemistry he has with dave paich & the rest of the guys in the band surely churned out such memorable songs worthy of praise & adulation...david/steve we salute you!!! & thank you for the music...too bad they finally disbanded 2008...

oops!...it was mike porcarro on bass guitars & not his bro steve...steve is on keyboards...hehe...sorry for the mistake...i always mix up the names of the porcarro bros in toto...actually there's 3 of them, jeff porcarro is on skins (sadly jeff died of an allergic reaction to a pesticide he was using)...

mean street...for the cool intro on this 1, i use a 2 handed approach to produce the sound...evh uses the thumb & finger clump of his right hand to do this, & uses his left hand to mute strings...but it still works for me, pretty much the same effect...hehe...

ice cream man is a blues based rock & roll tune...in fact, the whole riff & the solo is anchored on the blues pentatonic scale...i'm just crazy about the solo on this 1...a real jawdropper...

hehe...aint talkin bout love...my love is rotten to the core...hey3x...undenyably cool intro...i just love to do divebombs, i do it all the time when i play...i don't ever want to play a guitar without a floyd rose...hehe...

dancing in the street is 1 more fave of mine...this tune utilizes the delay the way it should be - to the max...here the dealy is practically use to drive the entire riff as well as texturize the great solo...just super...

scratching strings with phaser...atomic punk!...how about the elaborate use of string skipping? best illustrated in the rapid fire intro of 'im the one'...evh - my hero...your hero...everybody's hero...hehe...

trivia : the band toto has formally disbanded on 2008 when lukather finally decided to leave for good...this after the great dave paich retired for health reasons...& mike porcarro had to leave due to a serious hand injury...jeff porcarro having passed away much earlier left steve lukather as the only original member of the band left standing...farewell toto!!!...thank you for the music & the memories...

Yep, most of the casual fans were expecting them to play Leah, 99 (Luke hates this song), Georgy Porgy, I Won't Hold You Back etc...WTF, unsa'y pag-tuo nila aning grupoha Air Supply? Personally, I like their set for that tour, they played obscured tracks from their catalogue like Hydra, Gypsy Train and Drag Him to the Roof. Child's Anthem was part of the medley through, but its ok, that track is too overplayed!

P.S. I have all of their albums and DVD releases!

i love toto. though im more familiar with their "greatest hits" or "best of" compilation, i know these guys have killer songs on their catalogue. their new drummer simon phillips ain't too shabby either.
