Saw it last night. I hope this doesn't pass as a spoiler but, in my opinion, the writer(s) did a very "graceful" job of justifying why it is a "reboot". Splendid logic. Very fascinating indeed.

Just came back from Ayala...all that I can say is WOOOOOWWWW!!!!
I also liked how they did the reboot of the entire Star Trek story..."a fresh start" indeed...and logical like Rodion said
Writers will not be bounded by the old series.
I was wrong on one account though...click below if you've already watched the movie...some spoilers.
Spoiler!
After watching the film, i got to ask myself was it still Star Trek? hehe. Alot of uncessary changes were made.
among them, and the least they could have done was to leave the original theme music intact to maintain identity, but even that they have to change.
but i think it was a nice film.
one could only wonder, the film being an alternative timeline, what the next film will be about.

Movie is EPIC. Man was I blown away. High as a kite right now.![]()
I compared the faces of the "old" and "new" crew in the first page. The movie makers appear to have chosen the cast carefully. Apparently one of the bases was the actors' physical features. Or maybe the makeup artists are doing such a great job. Nice!
The new Captain Kirk looks a tad more rugged than the old and chubby Captain Kirk. I haven't seen the film yet, but I will!!!
If you've seen the Star TOS (The Original Series for those non-trekkies), William Shatner (who played the original James Tiberius Kirk wasn't originally chubby. I've seen all of the TOS episodes (since I'm a collector of all Star Trek tv series and movies) and they were all as fit as the one's in the movie. I even saw the original pilot episode for the TOS wherein it was Captain Pike (played by "Jeffrey Hunter") and not Captain Kirk who was the captain of the Enterprise.
Edit/Add: My only gripe with the movie was that there were so many 'ad placements' like the Nokia touchscreen phone, the mention of the Budweiser Classic, etc.
