Let's talk about Beauty.
For me, there is a spiritual side to beauty. Whenever I encounter a beautiful thing, for example, or an utterly beautiful person, I find myself lifted to cloud nine. Then, eventually, I would experience despair, because something inside me would long to grasp that beauty, would long to preserve it somehow, or better yet possess it! Yet, at the back of my mind I also know that it's wrong to possess beauty, that it in fact is never meant to be possessed.
On Beauty
Beauty
can either
drive you
mad
or liberate you
It will depend
on how you will
respond
every time you
see something
or someone
beautiful:
If you will seek
to possess it,
you will become
utterly miserable
and even mad,
but if you will see
it simply as a
gift from Above,
a reflection of God's
eternal beauty;
if you will exclaim in
your heart,
"Praise God!"
each time you
encounter
something
or someone beautiful,
or if you simply try
to appreciate it
and then finally
let go of it,
in the same way that
you let go of a
beautiful flower
when it begins to
wither in your hands,
or a beautiful song
when it begins to sound
predictable and stale
to you ears,
or a sparkling insight
when it ceases to
inspire you --
you will be freed,
and you will have a lighter
heart!
I'm reminded of Albert Camus' quote: "Beauty is unbearable, drives us to despair, offering us for a moment a glimpse of an eternity which we should like to stretch out over the whole of time."
