Default May 1 Challenge - Haiku

    Here ya go:

Haiku is a poetic form and a type of poetry from the Japanese culture. Haiku combines form, content, and language in a meaningful, yet compact form. Haiku poets, which you will soon be, write about everyday things. Many themes include nature, feelings, or experiences.

The most common form for Haiku is three short lines.
The first line usually contains five (5) syllables,
the second line seven (7) syllables,
and the third line contains five (5) syllables.

Haiku doesn't rhyme. A Haiku must "paint" a mental image in the reader's mind.

    Here is an example:

    Bleeding Heart
    by: EveSpark

In these painful days - 5 syllables
I struggle so very hard - 7 syllables
to comfort myself. - 5 syllables

    My heart is bleeding
    knowing that I'm all alone
    to face these sorrows.

    I am lost in love
    no inner strength to survive
    everything is pain.

    I must find someone
who can cure this bleeding heart
    It's my only hope.

The challenge: Make at least 2 stanzas haiku on any of the following prompts:

    1. You Left Me
    2. I Need You
    3. The Sunshine
    4. Free prompt.

You have 2 days to post your works.

    Good luck!

    When He Left
    by: Solitaire

    Angry and leaving
    he didn’t bother to look
    at my confusion.

    Trying to catch up
    I hastened my feeble steps
    and called out his name.

    Taking a brief glance
his dagger eyes seemed to say
    that I was a fool.

    Watching him drove off
I tried to hold back the tears
    as heart bled inside.

Thank you for your prompt response.
You have an outstanding haiku here.
    The message flows naturally and
your readers can relate to it very
well. The syllabication count is a perfect
5-7-5. Each verse paints a picture
    of pain.

The first verse is my favorite of all.
It is very well said and appropriate.
I see no typos and I couldn't think
    of any suggestions for you.

I have a wonderful reading at your piece.

Default May 2 Challenge - Acrostic

    Acrostic Poetry

Acrostic Poetry is where the first letter of each line spells a word, usually using the same
    words as in the title.

    Example # 1

    "Smile"
    -Spark-

    Someone takes a stupendous
    Moment to fondly share an
    Innermost palpability of
    Love and bequeaths a great
    Excitement worth holding dear.

    Example # 2

    "Frontliners"
    -Spark-

    Friendly writers and authors
    Roam around WDC to eagerly
    Offer motivation and encouragement.
Now we envision to share the spirit
Together we write on and not faint, we
Love to share reviews, smiles and
Insights to our works. This is a
    Never-ending mission of each frontliner.
Enthusiastic to engage in any activities.
Rejoicing with triumphs we achieve -
Surprisingly this is our creed we wish to impart.

    The challenge:

Make an acrostic using any of the prompts below:

    1. Istoryans
    2. Pinoy Ako
    3. Heartache
    4. Free prompt

You have two days to post an entry. Thanks.
