first,(1.) you are right it technically it does apply to those who believe. BUT! the fact is, weather you belive or not, like it or not.. everyone is part of His plan of redemption.
Now..(2.) you did not ask Him, well of couse your ancestors were sperm during those times when He was crucified, unsa pa kaha ka?
How does it work; first consider this (1.), now God became a man because He wanted man to take part in His salvation plan,so He suffered and died, shows how we mankind died in Sin, because He was a man He shared in our death in the sins and because He is God, when He was ressurected, He also ressurected everyone who is dead in sin and defeated sin forever. how come it became forever? because He is alive until now, that saving power continues to work on earth through the Holy Spirit.
