    wa man sad to maghubu....

Mao gani naay separation of church and state so dili mo matter kung holyweek or not..

naa sad ta freedom of expression etc...

i repeat ang mga contestants wala mag nude..

Philippine is a democratic county so organizers have all the rights to have a bikini contest...

if government wants to have control on everything then its best they live in a communist country like NORTH KOREA

If Im not mistaken, Edil Fidr is a national holiday, do we as Christians stop ourselves from partying? I for one dont stop myself. On those days I go out and eat lots of pork, go out drinking, and party. But I dont do it to intentionally offend my Muslim brothers and sisters, I do it because I can.
What I'm just trying to pinpoint is that we all should be aware of what the Holy Week is all about. Considering that the Philippines is a Christian country so to speak, then we all should act like one. I just placed the Muslims as an example because if they can refrain from doing such things, then why can't we as Christians? The essence of the Holy Week is starting to fade. Yes, there are still a lot who are observing it but the number of those who don't are somewhat increasing year after year.

“Rest assured that I will use all resources at my disposal to find out the identities of these personalities. Furthermore, I will not stop at this. I will also not hesitate to use all powers vested in me so that all those responsible will brought to court and Meted the proper punishment,” matod sa masuk-anong gobernador sa iyang press conference.

Freedom of expression is not absolute... (this is an answer to @wng and @mcduaneski also)

The main issue here is that this event is allegedly violating the law. The Holy Week timing just made it worse. It will not be a surprise that this scandal will reach the national level.

Wearing a bikini on the beach is very much different from "organizing a bikini open". Moreso, i firmly believe Wowowee has also a different format compared to a bikini open. Bikini opens don't have MTRCB to watch and control over them...In the case of the Bantayan Bikini Open, it is the LGU and the organizer themselves who are.

Those doesn't need an Einstein to figure that out...

@Springfield_XD_40: Of course it's politically motivated. But more accurately, it is legally and socio-religio-politically motivated. It is also motivated by the sensitivity and respect for religion and the welfare of women. Otherwise we don't have to declare Holy Week a "national holiday" isn't it?

Yes, freedom of expression is not absolute. But as rage963 pointed out, wa man gani to maghubo. And from the pictures in Sun Star, nag tapis tapis pa gani ang uban. I agree with mcduaneski. I don't even think this "law" they're allegedly violating is constitutional. I don't care for bikini opens. But if we outlaw something as "harmless" as that, what's next? Are we going to have a religious police? Actually, I'm actually surprised this has become a scandal, whether it's just at the municipal or provincial level. National level scandal?! Can't we just leave consensual adults alone? Kung di na minors nag rampa diha, unsa o kinsa man ang gi protectahan ani nga law, nga ganahan man to magpakita nga gabikini sila ang hing apil? Laws regarding rape are very clear. This law is murky... who defines what is being treated like a *** object? What if the woman herself who is already an adult wants to be treated that way? What if she wants to show off her nice figure? And what about those women who think they have nice figures but are really not that nice? How exactly is Miss Universe or Bb Pilipinas different from other beauty pageants? Di na puwede ang mga taga Cebu mo apil?

Now what? Is the governor appointing herself to be the beauty pageant or beachwear censor of the entire province? Gosh, we have pirated DVDs being peddled all over the province, a large percentage of which are porn. They can't even control that... There are *** scandal videos being scattered all over the place. And the governor wants to watch beauty pageant videos of the entire province so she can censor them or see who violates this "law"? How about other laws and other crimes that are being committed here? I think the governor has a right to ask mayors not to allow scantily clad women in town fiestas, as there are public funds used in those events. But to censor what is going on inside a private beach resort? I respect the governor for her other political decisions and what she has done for Cebu. And if it's about how to decrease teenage pregnancies, how to persecute and decrease the number of rape cases, or how to improve the income of women so they don't prostitute themselves, those are very worthy causes and those are the "mountains". Bikini opens are just "molehills."

It is a private resort , as long as wala sila gibuhat nga dautan , i think di dapat manghilabot ang governor ana. What's wrong with wearing a bikini in a beach?I remember that before there was a beauty pageant held at the capitol grounds with contestants wearing two piece attires, pwede sa capitol mag swim wear nya dili pwede sa beach resort ?na unsa na gud na ang governor?daghan pa mas dako nga problema kaysa ana that needs her attention .

i dont think u really understand what's happening here.
i still couldnt get over the fact that they did this on a holy week, they didnt even respect that, to think that majority of the people here are catholics.
nwei, she may have hidden intentions on why she's doing this (as u guys implied above), but still she has a point. parading around in bikinis are ok just as long as dili mag inamaw.. (u know what i mean)...

i hope bantayan wouldnt be the next bora....

This issue won't be a big deal kung wala nag reklamo. pero every year na sige reklamo ug request and mga pari sa Bantayan. The island Holy Week started as a solemn celebration.

Under sya sa public domain kung ato sundon ang DENR since hibuhat sya sa beach front.
There is also the issue of the Permits, wala man noh ug permit ang event...

unsa pag classify ang resort is private or public? kung base sa ako ang private resort are like those private pools sa laguna na imo abangan ug mga kaila da nimo ang na-a sa resort...

wala lage nag hubo but almost nag hubo na. ur understanding of the constitution is out of context.

    (1) The event is covered by a gov't permit. so meaning, even if the event is privately organized, it is still under the jurisdiction of the LGUs. and any event under LGUs are covered by the Women's welfare clause and Gwen's EO. So meaning, the LGUs have the right to censor such kind of events to protect the general welfare of the public. Again, FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION IS NOT ABSOLUTE. There are certain limits as provided by law. But saunz, the event defied it.

    (2) The beach is a private place yes. But it is open to the general public. If they hold such adult entertainment, they should have not allowed minors to watch the show, just like in the stripper night clubs.

    (3) The event falls on a Black Saturday. Even if it's a town fiesta, still the event cannot justify it. The organizers should have been sensitive to our culture and religion. Mao btaw gihimo ug National Holiday ang Holy Week. Not to mention that the church is just a few blocks away...besides, if it was totally acceptable sa public, wala untay nang reklamo...saunz naa man. hagbay raman gani diay.

Justifying the event as something like a freedom of expression is a lame excuse and a squid tactic. We are no longer being objective here but being subjective na. It doesn't need an Einstein to figure that out.

Pirated DVD porn is not a once in a blue moon event like a bikini open. It is illegal and happens everyday. Let the police and OMB handle it.
