It depends, if I have a very food driven dog, I will use a low value treat such as their kibble because if you use a high value treat to a very food-driven dog, the dog is not able to think clearly and only focuses on the food.
Now, if I have a dog that doesnt have food drive at all, I will use Hotdogs or cheese.
Hope this helps!
Thought I'd share this with you guys. I seldom breed my dogs and when I do, I go for WORKING CAPABILITY AND INTELLIGENCE and not so much on CONFORMATION.

Honestly, I felt guilty after watching it.
I hope the Philippine version of "The Kennel Club"... PCCI i think, will learn from this videos... So sad...
For years now, I have been so amazed by Cesar Millan. Im impressed by him not as a "DOG TRAINER" but as a "DOG BEHAVIORIST". The way he handles those agressive dogs is mind-boggling.
But the one that really got my attention, to the point of obsession, is how he walks his pack of dogs off-leash. For about a year now, trying to train a pack of dogs OFF-LEASH WALKING, i still can't get "THE WALK" perfect. Now after reading his book "BECOMING THE PACKLEADER", I think I have the idea on how he does it, "E-COLLAR TRAINING". The dog gets electric stimulation every time it moves ahead or far-away from the HANDLER. The power theE-COLLAR gives you is limitless, you can make a dog act like a "ROBOT".
Im a big fan of POSITIVE TRAINING and I have nothing against the E-COLLAR METHOD. In fact, Im planning on testing one. With that being said, this just gives an idea to all those planning to enroll their dogs in "OBEDIENCE TRAINING", if the trainer claims he can train your dog in 7 DAYS - it's highly likely he's using an E-COLLAR as a tool.
yes lahi ra jud ang positive training..
When this pup was enrolled to me by Atty. Ramos - IBP Environmental Action Chairperson , I knew it was going to be a challenge. The pup was fearful and exhibited Obsessive compulsive behavior, separation anxiety, hyperactivity, pica and copophragy. Good thing, it didn't show any aggression.
In this video, I'm desensitizing the pup against loud sounds and sudden movement. What better place to train it is at the SRP ROAD. I'm working on a 1 - minute DOWN/STAY. What started as an obedience training turned out to be a BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION class - sort of a CYNOPRAXIC kind'a thing.
Although the training isn't over yet but I'm glad I've seen some improvements.
YouTube - Downstay
I'm interested on how you guys would have approached this kinda' problem. Any other suggestions with training this kind of pup?
ive heard the "nothing in life is free"(NILIF) principles works for every type of dog...from the very shy to the over active...have you heard about it? i think its a great tool in training a dog or teaching a dog good behavior... Im starting to use it on my dog but the problem is i live in a house with lots of people so its kinda hard to control everyone...
I'm surprised you knew about N.I.L.I.F. principle, that's good to hear. It's an integral part of my program. That is how I apply the training commands in day to day situations...... all dogs I've trained live with N.I.L.I.F. principle.
I hope to hear more from you......... perhaps you can share some of your training knowledge here. Feel free also to post your videos here and lets make this thread a venue for us people to share tips in Dog training.
here's a video of my puppy when he was still 3 months old...now he's 8 months... havent use clicker yet at this stage...
