Around 5:00pm...still Chris's C8 and mjdianne's Newtonian.
Around 5:30pm...Divemaster and I set up his 5" Newtonian and small refractor at the north end of the area. At this point, people have begun to mill around the scopes...
6PM...moon becomes visible, but still veiled in clouds. People are a bit disappointed...
6:30PM...sky begins to clear up! In this photo you see Chris Go (white T-shirt) commenting on the dissipation of clouds.
7:00PM at this point onwards, hundreds of people were starting to line up, because the views of the moon through the scopes were a lot clearer and very entertaining.
Chris monitoring his C8...
People also enjoyed the moon through the small refractor...
...as well as the 5" Newtonian.
Tomio's 8" Schmidt-Cass. on a Vixen EQ mount (his group arrived at around 6pm)...first time I've seen a Vixen up close.
The endless lines of people...
...young and old alike...
Chris delivering an "Introduction to Astronomy" lecture for the crowd.
I really enjoyed reactions from kids when they saw the moon and/or planet Saturn for the first time...it's that pure reaction of delight and joy at seeing a real object in space, and not just from a page in an encyclopaedia
See you guys around next time
