LINUX for a LAPPY

Mga bro, ive been playing with my newly installed mandriva linux, also tried ubuntu, suse , opengeu and sabayun distros, but was able to enable sounds on my laptop,
it is a compaq cq40 188tu with built in intel hda sound card,
been battling to to playing music on a linux environment but none really worked.

If somebody can help me with this, maybe a case of rh will be fine )

When you booted into the Ubuntu desktop did you hear the Ubuntu into sound? If YES then your sound is working. If you want to play "music" (Mp3 perhaps?) you need to download a player for that. Ubuntu does not play mp3 by default.
