what does this thread want to point out? the emo classified by media or the emo produced by musicians?
emo is gay...
wat they mean is the emo screamo types.. kanang mga binata na tukar ron nya wit matching fashion.. hehe..
don't like the music but i love the fashion.. labi na nang mga chix.. wah..
Coldplay and Silverchair( they sound the same sometimes especially the piano driven songs) are not emo. Nor Bon Iver or The Whigs.
The original sound of emo is actually what kids call today as screamo. It's the osund of bands like Rites of Springs, Embrace, and sometimes Fugazi. But the term emo is actually an accidental term. Back in the 80s the front man of Rites of Spring was interviewed and somewhere in his talk he said something about how their bands are different from other punk bands at that time because instead of anger, hatred, and anarchy, they talk about love and teenage emotions and sing it as if your bleeding heart.![]()
It's always like this when it comes to music. The Media relates music to fashion. If you're a country fan, you should wear a cowboy hat. If you're metal, wear black and long hair. If nu-metal then black tshirt and shinny heads and it goes on and on....
Now emo must be skinny, wear black dress, and have this uniform hairstyle. I mean what the heck!
when Johnny Cash came out wearing black, people didn't call him country even though his music is purely country because the way he dress don't fit with the genre...
For me music and fashion should not be aligned as it is.
You can be a rock fan and wear a cowboy hat. Or you can be an emo fan but wears white tshirt or a bluegrass fan and dont need to wear a jumper.
Music is music to me and para nako you're just a poser and not really a music fan if you dress and listen to certain genre just because its the trend and culturally in!
Many people listens to country music nowadays because Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts are big superstars now but back in 2003, these people don't even listen to these kind of music even though the two artists mentioned are not truly traditional country in approach. Drop the steel guitar and fiddle and occasional banjo and you got pop music/rock music. Still country pop and country in general aint that popular back then so people dont care even if the music is great.
Same thing happens to art rock and christian rock. And who knows someday a movie bigger than O Brother where Art Thou could boost the popularity of bluegrass and before you know it, these same emo fans will be jamming to a Bill Monroe or Cherryholmes' music and they will debate what actually is bluegrass and if Nickel Creek and Punh Brothers oculd be consider as such...![]()
