Updates:
Sony Ericsson: New Satio phone can play "PlayStation games"
Remember the Sony Ericsson Aino? The phone that could sync up with the PS3 and let users manage their PS3-stored media? Yeah, another Sony Ericsson phone just did it one better by being able to play PlayStation games.
The new phone, the Sony Ericsson Satio, was unveiled during a media launch held at the Red Dot Museum in Singapore last week. The phone was actually first introduced as the "Idou" in Barcelona. here's a quote from Hirokazu Ishizuka, Sony Ericsson’s Corporate Vice President and Head of Asia Pacific Region:
I think we are very confident of our own solution--entertainment unlimited. Not only music entertainment experience but also imaging, cyber-shot technology and we have a 12.1 megapixels camera. On top of that, you can enjoy your PlayStation games so therefore this product is so powerful and we are very confident of this product’s success.
It was never explicitly stated what kind of "games" these are, but I think we can rule out any PS3 games right now. The only games mentioned were Asphalt Road and an unspecified Prince of Persia game, both of which will be in ninth High Definition (nHD) format. Maybe it'll also get some of the smaller downloadable games being readied for the PSP Go?
If you're thinking about saving up for this, there's a bit of a catch. The Satio's content library -- which will include downloadable games, movies, music videos and applications -- is reportedly exclusive for Asia Pacific consumers only. The Satio's also on the worldwide SE website too, though, so chances are those'll still be released worldwide.
The Satio is expected to be released this fall.
