How to change the router's I.P. address?

Why it is quite confusing, excessive steps configuring a network.

*We will use the router to act as a switch*

Ani rana bro.. mao ni current setup nako sa house.
1. Be sure that DHCP in your globe modem is already activated.
2. Configure your PC with a static IP address like
IP: 192.168.1.5.
Subnet: auto provide
gateway: ip sa globe modem (192.168.1.1)
DNS:ip sa globe modem (192.168.1.1)
3. Dont connect yet your PC to globe modem.
4. Connect your PC to your Linksys router.
5. Enter you Linksys router's config via web browser (http://192.168.1.1) (you may enter user and password)

Why assigning a static IP address to login to a Linksys router? The DHCP of the Linksys router is not yet disabled, right?

10. Get a staight thru cable and connect the other end sa globe modem and other end sa one of the switch port sa linksys.

The confusing here for the TS is getting a straight thru cable. How would he know if he is using a straight thru cable or a cross over? No need to mention the type of cable most of the router if not all are auto sensing. Why not tell him "get an ethernet cable".

note:
*if you want a dynamic address you can re configure your pc for that. pero ok raman to ang static.

Why use a static IP address in your computer when your device can give you a Dynamic IP address? I hope the static IP address assigned in your computer is outside from your DHCP in the router coz if not there is possibility of an IP address conflict.

Are you sure he can see a WAN in the router? What if he is using a new type of router from Linksys or a wireless N router, he maybe seen a Internet port instead of WAN though.

Further Notes:

Sir further questions, try ko mu help...


1. Pila ka port pede sa imo globe na modem?
2. Pag direct connected ang PC nimo sa modem? unsay IP add nimo makuha sa PC? Private IP like 192.x.x.x? or Public IP like or similar to 74.x.x.x
3. What Linksys model did you buy, is it a router or just a switch, daku ug diff ang router kaysa switch...
4. IF linksys router ang napalit nimo, and all you need is login to your linksys router...connect your pc thru of one the ethernet ports...just change the 3rd octet of the IP address on the Local IP Address, Under Network Setup Field, This can be found ont the Setup page - Basic. Default will be 192.168.1.1, so change the 3rd octet to 192.168.10.1 then save it. (Make sure that when you reconfigure the linksys router do not connect it sa imong modem) just the ethernet connection to the computer. and of course make sure that power turn on the linksys router.
5. Tapos ana, turn off modem and linksys.
6. then reconnect ethernet cables, from globe modem to WAN/internet port of Linksys, then from any ethernet ports of linksys router to your computer.
7. power cycle device in order. turn on globe modem(wait for modem to connect to server) if ok na ang lights> turn on linksys router> hulati lang mo sync ang router sa modem.
8. check ang ip add nimo kung 192.168.10.x if murag ani na ang format. try ug ping any website if ok.
9. check internet explorer mung maka-connect sa internet.

Sorry to tell you all but the steps above is quite confusing to the TS.

The issue here is the modem and the router has the same IP address so basically it is conflict so he needs to change the IP address on any of his device (modem or router).

You need to login to your router configuration page by typing the router IP address (Linksys default IP address 192.168.1.1)

In the Setup tab, under the Network Setup you can see the Local IP adress you need to change it (ex. 192.168.10.1) and Save the settings.

For the Internet Setup just use Automatic Configuration - DHCP

what made you choose "192.168.10.1" as an example?

another question sir.. kang kinsang DHCP ang magamit sir pananglitan ang mga pc is naka dynamic? is it ang modem sa globe nga equipt with dhcp or sa iyang linksys router? shall we say sir nga ang mga pc naka connect sa linksys kay usually ang modem sa globe is isa rana ka port..

i am not a master in networking sir i have worked only 4yrs as an IT professional..

Yes of course bro.. klaro kaayo ang port sa luyo.. same rana bro "WAN" port and "Internet" port sa luyo sa router. Probably "Internet" port ang nakabutang sa yahang sa yaha router but others are "WAN".

I distinguish kuno bro the difference between WAN and Internet? =)
