..yes, deep respect. They would not just easily pat your head. Because they belive that it is where the wisdom lies. And they avoid stepping on you also, because they belive that the feet are the dirtiest part of the body...
was invited by the monk there of the same event & date, i might be there; i had my little girl baptised thre last year; though i never wanted my baby to be baptised by any organized religion
(for me its child abuse to decide for our childrens religion) i decided to choose budhism as her religion due to my wifes pressure that our child should be baptised; so i made a counter offer to choose what brand;
i did my own research w/ budhism both Mahayana(zen budhism;esoteric budhism)
& hinayana system & its hard not to get attracted to the teachings, its a way of life;& its beautiful; & above all its humbling
some short conversations that i like:
scientist: tell me what is matter
buddhist: Matter? i dont really mind
scientist: if you dont mind, then define for me what is mind
buddhist: Mind? it doesnt really matter
religionist: are you an atheist since you dont talk about god? instead of relying from gods strength
& grace you rely on your human strength
buddhist: we dont mentioned god because god talk is "finger pointing the moon". when the sage
point the moon , the idiots sees the finger, after w/c they make a church out of it
In the Majjhima Nikaya, the Buddha likens his teaching to a raft. Suppose a traveller sees a great expanse of water. The shore he stands on is dangerous and frightening, while the opposite shore offers safety, peace and tranqulity. Their is neither a bridge to cross nor a ferry to carry him over, so he builds a raft. Once on the other shore, what should he do? Drag the raft that had been useful to him and turn it into an impediment, or let go of it now that he is safely across the water?
The raft, the Buddha observes, is for crossing with, not clinging to, and the same is true of his teaching. It is neither an intellectual endeavour nor a creed, but merely something to be brought into being and cultivated..
