1Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,
To God's elect, strangers in the world, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, 2who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by his blood:
Grace and peace be yours in abundance.
Now, can anyone be called a Christian even if he doesn't believe in Jesus Christ, that he died for our sins and was resurrected on the third day? Or not being saved? Not at all, The next question is "What now after we've been (baptized by the Holy Spirit) or converted to Christians?"
Are we going to live same life, following our sinfulness? No. And that's what this verses is all about,
Ephesians 2:10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
1 Peter 1:7
These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
Hebrews 10:39
But we are not of them that shrink back unto perdition; but of them that have faith unto the saving of the soul.
Hebrews 10:39 "Darby Translation"
But *we* are not drawers back to perdition, but of faith to saving [the] soul.
And this good works written in the bible is the fruit of the Spirit given to every genuine believer in Christ Jesus.
The apostle Peter and Paul, are giving instructions to other disciples and believer to live a Holy Life to live as a Christian as the LORD Jesus commanded and taught them.
The difference is that:
Salvation = faith
and this faith is being manifested by the fruit of the Spirit (Good works).
And not
Salvation = faith + Good works
I'll give you example:
Abraham as we all know he is the father of faith, father of all nation, God's friend?
Did he know that he's doing the good works that God require, when he obey God to leave his homeland?
how would he know, when there's no Law at that time? (No ten commandments or Bible)
In that case, it's impossible to distinguish the right from the wrong? (In God's Standard of Holiness)
How would he know that obeying God is the right thing to do?
He has always a choice, to just settle down in his homeland or to go the promise Land that God will give him not knowing what will happen?
Therefore, we can conclude that he was justified by his faith.
if faith + Good works is Salvation, how do we know that our good works are enough to save us? considering we have faith in God.
What if we stumble, we fall into sin, are we disqualified from our Salvation?
yes, it's correct that it's face out from other translations like the NIV, but for the KJV version it uses "begotten". But if we focused on this interpretation errors we're really missing alot of what the bible has to say.
But there's a lot of verses that proves that this verse is true?
Example:
John 20:31
But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
If you've understood the bible, there's no other book in this planet, that dares to prophecy the events as we've witness happen on this age?
No, other book written, was written by many writers inspired by the holy spirit, and when you read it, it's like written by a sigle person?
No, other book written from about 2000 years ago, survived despite of severe destruction and oppositions. And survey says that the Bible has the most number of copies in the history of literature
