Suspect’s family asks ‘brains, cohorts’ to surrender and clear detainee’s name

THE family of the suspect in the killing of a call center supervisor finally broke their silence and told reporters yesterday that Jonnelle Enfectana is innocent of the crime.

“Wala na sila nagtubo nga bakakon, bisan pulong nga yawa di madungog sa among balay (Our children didn’t grow up as liars. You cannot even hear them curse at home),” said the suspect’s mother, who asked not to be named.

Enfectana’s aunt Luz said they hope that the evidence “will not be tampered with.”

She did not specify, however, what evidence she was referring to.

Inquest prosecutor Bienvenido Mabanto promised to resolve the complaint today.

Enfectana, 26, is facing a murder complaint for the death of her close friend and officemate Lynn Vi Ebarita, whose
decomposing body was found with 24 stab wounds and stuffed inside a plastic bag last Jan. 22.

After the killing, Enfectana initially cooperated with investigators but changed her mind when authorities arrested her. Police recovered Ebarita’s wallet in Enfectana’s boarding house in Barangay Banilad last Jan. 28.

Members of the Enfectana family said they are hurt by how the suspect is portrayed.

“As a mother I know my daughter, she is innocent and we’re speaking the truth,” Enfectana’s mother said.

She said she wants the real killers to surrender and have pity for her daughter.

She asked the public to give them time to defend themselves.

Enfectana and her mother met last Sunday. Her mother remembered her daughter telling her, “Mama happy, birthday. I am very sorry I cannot kiss and hug you.”

It was the mother’s birthday last Sunday.

The mother said Enfectana is a choir member of their parish.

She is now detained at the Subangdaku Police Station. (OCP)
