USA really felt the threat of a main land invasion since the japs were using conquered islands strategic places for deployment...one of those if i remember correctly was Philippines. if you level with the japanese mentality and pride...IMO, they sure are going for a land invasion. it took them a few days to defeat the brits in the pacific theater. walang challenge in simple terms...the brits were expecting an attack from the shores but instead the japs took the less suspected route. the hard way, through the mountains. they made it through british defenses. sometimes na wawalan ako ng gana magbasa dito pacific theater...one of its interesting subsets yung naval operations sa pacific, and of course yung Philippine contingent(reasons why i still despise USA).

really? why hate the US..nway i saw this book sa booksale..it's about the evils of FDR his contributions to the war or simply why he's evil..anyway it was thick and i can't find it na..was gonna buy it kai last time i saw it i didn't have any money...

nway..im not so well versed to the pacific theater..even sa european theater hindi rin..pero i read a lot about the european theater more than the pacific..all i know are the usual stuff to know about the pacific theater..i'd love to know how they beat the japanese fleet sa battle at leyte gulf..that's where the japanese navy died right?..the japanese in my opinion was very succesful because of the surprise they had in their invasions..i think if the british colonies we're tipped of an impending japanese attack they might have been prepared but i think the japanese will eventually overwhelm the defenders considering they have rule over the sea routes..and the british might focus on their ailing defenses in their own home.

if we look at the Philippine history through a Filipino perspective. USA screwed us. Mcarthur used filipinos to cover his escape in bataan, to save his a**. i'm not really a fan of mcarthur, his an army man. i kind of think his strategy was effective but "chicken" in nature. he gave the marines the difficult ones/strongholds. i admire the marines and their strategies, superhuman feats nga according to some authors. the marines deserve those bragging rights.

IMO, japan held the underdog card. the brits were over confident about their defenses in the pacific theater...japan managed to break those defenses within days. some of the japanese generals were kinda disgusted with the brits(specially the officers) for not putting a good fight, they surrendered easily.

really!! hehehe!! taya gd! really ONLY Filipinos ra?..hmmmmm...that's a revelation..pero i have to say that he's an important man he has to be kept alive at all costs..i remembered a statement made by osmena (im not sure) but it was a figurative statement i can't remember the exact words but it says "....while his daughter is being raped at the back..."...it was his sentiment regarding the philippines during WWII of how the US has literally forsaken the philippines in terms nman lang of underground help or something from the US..well actually racial discrimination was all over the world during that time..even Churchill never credited the Ghurkas fighting in Burma..As long as at the defense of Corregidor there were Americans fighting alongside us..and also suffered along us during the long Death March..im ok with it or you have more other shocking truths about the US giving us the disadvantage...and regarding the Marines..McArthur might've given them the difficult ones pero they're the main assault people right supposed to be tougher than regular joes..much like the Airbornes in the west..i remembered a line from the Band of Brothers series:

regular army soldier: Sir there're germans in bastogne you might get surrounded!
airborne soldier: Trooper we're the airborne...were supposed to be surrounded.

    hehe!

what i mean with macarthur was he was kinda living in luxury here, while his troops had rations...at syempre, puti yung na uuna. i've been reading filipino combatant's diaries during this war. yung isa nga excited kala nya ROTC field trip, they have no idea they're fighting the japanese already. am babata din. and we know surviving combatants/soldier serving USA during this war(coz it was never our war, it was USA's. and we were under USA), hind pa binibigayan ng insuarance. delay ng delay til they die of old age yata hinihintay. pinabyaan ni macarthur ang pinas, after the war...they supported and rebuild japan first.

IMO, USA has a hidden grudge with this country. dami nilang casualties sa mindanao. and they resorted to atrocities later revealed after the war. they had to invent the colt 45, total man stopper against the moros armed with kris. pati na rin yung balangiga incident. di pa nga nau uli yung bell of balangiga.

speaking of racial discrimination....havent you noticed, there were no colored people fighting on the European theater(ground lang). the blacks were mainly used as laborers...most of them ended in the pacific theater.hehe

yung marines, kahit sa korean war. takbo lang ng takbo lang yung army. disgraceful nga, dropping their weapons and abandoning their vehicles/posts documented pa yun. dito nila na experience yung HUMAN WAVE.hahaha
only the marines stood their ground.

so the americans owe us a lot as much as the japanese did huh..hmmm..that's disconcerting..and i have to disagree on that part on the "their war" thing WWII was our war too as much as was their war..japan was expanding by force because of the US oil embargo..so no matter if we were free we probably end up like France who was swallowed by the nazis during their own expansion..in our very delectable position in the pacific we can't maintain neutrality for long..not if we have an army much like the germans..eh wla eh..so i guess no matter how we see it WWII is still our war..nasa poder lang tayo ng americano..dba the troops call mcarthur "dougout doug"..hehe! your sentiments reflect those of the indians..if tayo americans then sila british...the americans had the technology had the system..and also they have this superiority complex..in my opinion i just can't complain about our situation during those days..it was a hard time for us pinoys..i share your sentiments in this atrocities but during those times we just can't live on our own..supposing that the spaniards never came much as the americans in my opinion there might be a semblance of a government in our country but i think only in luzon..and isa pa it'd be like the kingdom of Makati or quezon city..but not as a whole...we're like china during those times..divided..the only difference is continent sila tayo hindi...im not siding with the americans here but it was a time of bigotry and fear..so we just have to go on..take the brunt and learn from it..in my opinion WWII kinda a blessing in disguise..meron na ba tayong efforts for independence before the war?..yeah i think we had..and in my opinion after the war..the word liberation was very popular so i guess the US whether they liked it or not has to proclaim our independence..everyone in the world was in the mood..and about the japanese..i think it was a big guilt for them or it might be another "colony" much like the philippines to be taken advantaged of..yeah the philippines too was destroyed by bombs pero atomic lang yung sa japan...sabi nga ng friend ko.."sana tayo nalang na bombahan ng atomic bomb noh?..d sana ganito pinas ngayon"..hehehe!!!

and about the atrocities is that during the Phil-American war?..if so then i agree we were just sold from one conqueror to another..and about the regular army..i just give them credit for overwhelming omaha beach..which has a 98% casualty on the first hour on the landings..

and i don't entirely agree on the european theater where they only employ whites..indeed there were no blacks..if you mean colored as in black american then agreea ko but if you include the jap-americans..then i don't..the jap-americans where the "marines" during the italian campaign..they bore the brunt of the fighting...blacks were just workers..the americans also have their own racial problems than the nazis with the jews..everyone was a bigot during that time..na unahan lang sila ni hitler.

by the way is there a chance ma share mo yung diaries ng mga WWII vets sa pinas?..were they reproduced..im kinda interested..hehe!

what i meant with the its USA's war was, it wasnt really for the Philippines. we were fighting under the american flag, and ironically those who served and survived didnt even get the compensation cost/insurance USA promised for their services, most of what was promised. paubos na rin ang veterans nito, parang hinihintay lang nilang mamatay at limutin. which is sad.
yes, just like france nga. some of the french ended up serving the ss, french contigent. same here, japan did release leaflets that said 'this is not your war, usa is the enemy' something like that. and we had pinoys siding the japanese too(aguinaldo was one of them, i dont really consider him as a pinoy HERO. he killed our pinoy hero, bonifacio)

IMO, i dont think it was just the atom bomb guilt. i believe it has something to do with invested interests.

i like to follow the marine operations during the WW2, di masyado na sensationalize ng media. they were not army regulars, they were marines.hehe

demoralizing nga yung issue ng racism during those times, when the troops reflect upon the actions of their adversary, nazis. they were not that different. hitler voiced out his ultimatum while others were too timid to discuss and address the issue.

regarding those *diaries it belonged to my father, couldnt figure the title nor the cover page since it was already missing. my father was a frustrated soldier. my forefathers were mostly soldiers. now he is a "disillusioned patriot"...as i am.

    @munzter

sayang ung diaries..i also read a book but unfortunately wasn't able to finish it since it wasn't mine..it titled koga or something like that..well the book was about the accounts of a guerilla here in cebu but the name koga was..i think a japanese officer who had a plane crash in the south of cebu and he had with him some important papers which were luckily grabbed by the local resistance..i think the info on the papers were vital to the americans choosing their landing zone which was the leyte gulf..it was a very interesting read..sayang i was on the verge of getting the info on the papers..

and yes about the compensation..i do agree with you sadly wla pa ring ginagawa ang us govt. about it..it's sad but they do have my kudos in fighting for the war..and about aguinaldo..yes i do echo your thoughts he was in my opinion not a hero..and yes i do believe he is the murderer of bonifacio..and yes the racism was so extreme the war didn't even dent it it..even lincoln's efforts were not enough..hehe!! i do remember an account from a war documentary where a black marine almost didn't get a haircut because the barber was a racists white guy but fortunately a captain ordered the barber to cut the black marine's hair..hehe!! but as the war went on the whites were able to accept the blacks..i remember one officer said..in an interview regarding african american marines..."They're marines..period"
i think it's nice to follow the marines' exploits during the war..but as for me..im more on the german side..i've read quite a lot about the germans..hehe!! but militarily speaking the germans where supposed to win the war..they're very intelligent and innovative soldiers they're the rightful ones to be called the fathers of modern warfare and tactics..they had first grade weapons that only the Allies could have dreamed of..if not for that stupid russian campaign..they'd have had the upper hand..the western front was soooo easy to win..damn! they just didn't finish off the brits at dunkirk!!! then with the atlantic in their hands no one's gonna bother them anymore in conquering russia,,,SUS!!! hitler oi!! wla man ka naghuna2x..hehe!!
