Default CPU - what to expect in 2009

Trying to decide what your next upgrade is going to be?

the original source was published few months ago but a lot of the road maps for 2009 where push back as far as 6months - 3years because of the current economic conditions.
    ----------------
    *** AMD ***
    ----------------
    Jan - June 2009
    **for Desktop
    1. AMD platform codename Dragon Phenom II X4 quad-core processor
    a.) code-named Deneb have 8MB of L3 cache
b.) Propos version will have 2MB of L3 cache.
Dragon will also include ATI Radeon HD 4800 series GPU and 790 series chipset.

    June - Dec 2009
    **for Desktop
    2. AMD platform codename Pisces will feature 45nm process Phenom II triple and quad-core processors that will used DDR3 memory and upcoming RS880 chipset.

    **for Servers
    3. AMD will introduce new server platform named Fiorano - a six-core processor

    Future
    - A next-generation platform code-named Maranello will be introduced with a new socket and will support DDR3 instead of DDR2. Maranello will bring AMD's first ever 12-core processor code-named Magny-Cours and six core processor code-named Sao Paolo in 2010.

    - AMD will launch the Hydra revision of its Shanghai CPU in early 2009. Hydra should support up to 8 cores, 6MB L3 cache, and 1MB L2 cache per core.

    - AMD Bulldozer is due to be released originally in H1 2009 but was pushed far back to 2011. AMD has said Bulldozer will be an all new processor containing up to 16 cores.

    ----------------
    *** Intel ***
    ----------------

    Last Year
1.Bloomfield Processor (the new Core i7)
Octo( 8 ) Intel Hyper-Threading across four cores.
    3 channel DDR3

    Jan - June 2009
    ? delayed ?
    most likely nothing

Intel to Launch Core i7 for Mainstream Market by Mid 2009

    **for Desktop
    3. Lynnfield Processor (next lower version core i7? )
    socket - LGA-1366
Based on next generation Nehalem architecture
Octo( 8 ) Intel Hyper-Threading across four cores
    2 channel DDR3 only
graphics for single or multicard performance (1x16 or 2x8 )

    4. Havendale Processor ( i think this is a Core2 duo version of corei7)
    socket - LGA-1366
Based on next generation Nehalem architecture
Quad Intel Hyper-Threading across two cores
    2 channel DDR3 only
graphics support for single card performance (1x16 ) only

    5. Clarksfield Processor. (i think this is Quadcore with Hyperthreading)
    For mobile processor
    socket - ?
Based on next generation Nahalem architecture
Octo ( 8 ) Intel Hyper-Threading technology on four cores
    2 channel DDR3 only
Graphics Support for single or multi card performance (1x16 or 2x8 )

    6. Auburndale Processor - (and i think this is a Core2 duo with Hyperthreading)
    socket - ?
Based on next generation Nehalem architecture
Quad Intel Hyper-Threading technology on two cores
    2 channel DDR3 only
Graphics Support for single card performance (1x16 )

    Future
    - Intel Larrabee is a multi-core, programmable general purpose graphics processors (GPGPU). It is a GPU, physics and scientific calculation chip all in one. The GPU is expected to contain up to 16 cores and each core can execute up to 4 simultaneous threads allowing up to 64 total threads. Larrabee will use GDDR5 memory.

    - Intel's Lincroft CPU is expected to be launched in 2009 and will be part of the Moorestown platform. Lincroft will bring the graphics core and memory controller all into the processor itself.

    ----------------
    *** New Hardware***
    ----------------
-PCI Express 3.0 specification is expected to be completed in 2009 and begin appearing on motherboards in the 2009/2010 timeframe. PCIe 3.0 will allow for increased transfers up to 8 gigatransfers per second (vs. 5 for PCIe 2.0). It is expected to use the same connector and thus be backwards compatible.

Im excited on what ATI and nvidia will bring to the table this year, GT300 and RV800

For Intel processors, I think Atom will be more in a short demand - I saw a lot of entry products in the shelves with these processor specs.

by the time i buy a new computer (core 2 duo or quad core), in less than 12months - its heading towards "being obsolete" because of the new PCi Express architechture and DDR3 only motherboards.

the New Core i7 - seems to be staying and no newer architecture in the next 12 or 24 months.
the next intel cpu release is somewhere after june 2009, and it seems to be downgraded-efficient version of the current i7 (from tripple channel to dual channel plus i think it's going to be very energy efficient).

AMD's codename Dragon will only compete with the current intel quad cores. no competition yet to corei7 in the next 6 months.

AMD's codename Pisces will probably compete with corei7 but will be release sometime in june09.

so June 2009 is probably when the intel's corei7 is going start droping it's prices for corei7 dramatically.

^^ agree, Intel already pulled-out and planning to pull-out out most of their plants in Asia including the Phils.

If this is happening to Intel, definitely AMD is having the worst.

are we expecting higher prices on procies and other PC parts?

kung mohinay ang demand more likely mo drop ang price.

mo-drop ang price kung daghan ang na-produce, unya hinay ang demand... pero kung gamay ra pud ang production... bisan pag gamay ra ang demand... mahal gihapon na.
