The Gaza War thread is closed. I am making another one here. But this time i hope that the real issue must be dealt with and racist comments must be avoided at all cost.


Israel declared a ceasefire but failed to recognize the demands Hamas asked for. Hamas as a sign of protest once again fired rockets to Israel.


I think that Israel must withdraw their troops and open the borders for humanitarian and economic aids to Gaza. I cant understand Israel's move for the blockade. This is a very selfish act.


I am beginning to think that Israel's war is not because of retaliation of the rockets fired at them but an occupation and control of a certain route that will open for more trade advantageous to Israel.

I think that while Israel wishes to destroy Hamas, they are going about it the wrong way. More innocent people have been killed, and how many people from Hamas? What of that Palestinian hospital that was bombed. No Hamas people were there, so why bomb it?
I hope the ceasefire lasts and both countries back down, but that seems unlikely, sadly.

Hamas took power thru a coup against Fatah, that's why the Israel blocks the gaza strip bec. Hamas posts a threat. If Hamas wants to stop the blockade by the Israel army, they must do it through diplomatic means, not firing rockets into Israel. The world didn't condemned the Israel civilians when Hamas kept on firing rockets into Israel, Hamas is so full of sht.

Just from a news lately, a ceasefire has been called by both sides with of course conditions. And also Hamas claimed that they only lost 48 fighters against the war with Israel....

It criticized Hamas for not taking into consideration any other views from Arab leaders, saying the repercussions of the abduction of the Israeli soldier "are exactly what the Arab government reject and exactly what the Israeli government wants to justify" in its "uneven" military campaign against the Palestinians. The paper, distributed in many Arab capitals, said that no Arab or any other country can do anything except condemn because not a single Arab country wants to be pulled into a "losing battle." It opined that no one has the right to ask Arab governments for help when they were not consulted, accusing the Hamas government of "turning its back to Arab decisions and advice." It said that those who pulled the Palestinians into this fierce battle are alone to be blamed and to ask themselves whether the kidnapping of the soldier was worth all the damage inflicted on the Palestinians.

well, both sides agreed to a ceasefire. I hope that everyone will help in drafting a peaceful and a win win resolution.

Saudi Arabia pledge to give $1 billion for the reconstruction of the war torn Palestine. I believe that other Arab muslim nations will soon follow.

Sir Hamas won the election.

The losers of that election should respect the result of the election.


BRUSSELS — Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday, January 19, urged the West to respect the democratic Palestinian elections that brought Hamas to power.

"If we are to move towards democracy in that region then we should respect the decision of the people who went to the ballot box," Erdogan said in a speech at a European Policy Center conference, reported Agence France-Presse (AFP).

Erdogan said that Hamas had clearly won parliamentary elections in the Palestinian territories in 2007.

Hamas trounced Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's once-dominant Fatah in the 2007 polls and formed its own government before Fatah later joined a Hamas-led national unity government.


But the West, led by the US, refused any contact with the Hamas-led government.

The US and Israel also led an international campaign to impose a crippling siege on the densely-populated Gaza Strip, home to nearly 1.6 million.

Erdogan said his ruling Justice and Development Party had faced similar international reprobation when it came to power.

"There were many things that were said against my people, but democracy is not confined to the definition of the elites," he said.

"Within a democracy everyone votes, is equal. If one can respect the result, then one is a democrat."

The Turkish leaders asked the West to give Hamas a chance to demonstrate her governance.

"We should not be squeezing them into the corner," he stressed.

"If they are not successful they will lose the next time."

Disrespect

Erdogan renewed his criticism of Israel for showing disrespect to his country over its deadly Gaza offensive.

"I have to say we have been saddened by what went on," he said.

"Israel did not really respect us in that process."

The Turkish premier said that he had six hours of talks with his Israeli counterpart Ehud Olmert at the end of December, during which they had discussed Turkey-mediated indirect Israeli-Syrian talks and other issues.

"But no mention was ever made during these discussions with Mr. Olmert about Gaza, and three or four days later he should have contacted me," Erdogan said.

"Not only did he not contact me, but we then discovered, December 27, that Israel had started to bomb Gaza," he added.

"This lack of respect is something that Israel has to remedy."

Israeli troops killed more than 1,300 people, more than half of them civilians, and wounded 5,300 in its 22-day Gaza offensive.

"Children were killed. Defenseless people were killed. Is this what you have accomplished?"

Let us take a little history on this nation or country...

Before Israel was established as Israel, Palestinians already occupied the area around 200BC or more.

This late centuries the U.S. declare Israel as a nation with the help of U.N while Palestine was not even declare as a country...

We all know that U.S. and Israel already had military and diplomatic ties. Which off course "the good for the people."

The cease fire is just temporary, we already witness many unproclaimed, unreported wars between Israel and Palestine. Now I think they equate Palestine as Hamaz, which sadly to say only few of them. Hamaz is a political party to be equal.

The war of this two will be resolved if one of them will eradicate the other, which could cause many innocent women and children will die as to live their causes.

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM — Former US president Jimmy Carter insisted on Monday April 21, that Hamas is not a bloc to peace in the Middle East and will accept a peace deal negotiated by President Mahmoud Abbas if approved by Palestinians in a referendum.

"They said they would accept a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders if approved by Palestinians…even though Hamas might disagree with some terms of the agreement," Carter said in a televised speech.

"It means that Hamas will not undermine Abbas's efforts to negotiate an agreement and Hamas will accept an agreement if the Palestinians support it in a free vote."

Israel occupied the West Bank and the Gaza Strip in the 1967 Middle East war.

Israel pulled troops and settlers out of the Gaza Strip in 2005 but maintains control of the territory's borders and has shut down Gaza crossings since June of last year.

Carter, on a multi-leg Middle East tour to promote peace, said Hamas is ready to accept the right of Israel to "live as a neighbor next door in peace".

"There's no doubt that both the Arab world and the Palestinians, including Hamas, will accept Israel's right to live in peace within the 1967 borders."

No Peace

Carter, the architect of the 1979 Egypt-Israel peace treaty, stressed that peace efforts had "regressed" since the US-hosted peace conference in Annapolis, Maryland, in November.

Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert re-launched peace talks after the conference.

But talks have stalled over Israel's refusal to put the fate of Al-Quds (occupied East Jerusalem) and refugees on the agenda.

"The problem is not that I met with Hamas in Syria," Carter insisted.

"The problem is that Israel and the United States refuse to meet with someone who must be involved."

Carter said excluding Hamas "is just not working".

Israel and the US, which both consider Hamas a terrorist group, have criticized Carter's efforts to broker negotiations.

Citing confidential documents, the US magazine Vanity Fair revealed that the Bush administration had drawn up plans to topple the ruling Hamas after its 2006 parliamentary victory with the help of Fatah strongman Mohammad Dahlan, prompting Hamas to take a preemptive action by taking over the Gaza Strip.

Carter noted that the majority of people in the region do not believe Israel really wants peace.

He recalled a meeting he and his wife had with a group of young Palestinians in Ramallah.

The former US president said they had absolutely no hope for peace and a better future.

Because of the occupation, the young Palestinians have lost everything and do not even have a nationality.

"My wife broke into tears," Carter recalled.

Detainees

Carter said Israeli soldier Gilad Schalit, taken prisoner by Hamas in a cross-border attack in 2006 to use as a bargaining chip to free Palestinian detainees, is in good condition.

He added that Hamas has promised to let him send a letter to his parents.

"The letter is now in its way and will be delivered through the Carter Center."

The former US president said Hamas has refused to release Schalit in return for tens of its ministers and MPs abducted by Israel.

He noted that Hamas has promised the families of Palestinian detainees that their loved one would be freed as part of a swap deal.

"I understand they want to keep their promise to their people."

But Carter added that Hamas has agreed to move Schalit to Egyptian custody as part of a prisoner release deal, should one be moderated through a third-party.

Egypt is currently brokering a prisoner swap deal between Hamas and Israel. There are more than 11,000 Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails.
