    Default HD: Total Disk Space

    need help here

I recently bought a 160gb Samsung HD, but kung tanawon nako ang properties sa hardisk, it only shows 149gb Total Disk Space, asa man na punta ang 11gb? I know na naay hardisk space alloted para sa Restor Points and Files Systems, but dili man mao akong OS HD, I also have a 20gb hardisk na akong gamit para OS lang. ang kung mao gani na cya , do you think 11gb is too much for restore points and file sysytems?

Unpartitioned sad ni siya, Is this normal?

That's normal. Hard drive makers figure KB, MB, and GB in units of 1000 for their own convenience, while the PC sees it in units of 1024. If you divide 160,000,000,000 by 1024, divide that result by 1024, then divide that result by 1024, you'll get 149.01 GB.

    and it's all microsoft's fault ^_^.

"Windows Explorer" does not report capacity this way. Other operating systems don't get it wrong like Windows does. Windows WRONGLY reports GiB as GB (and MiB for MB and so on). So when you see that your 500GB drive only has 465GB in Windows, it is because it is actually 465GiB, not 465GB like Windows says. And 465GiB is equal to 500GB. So the only misrepresentation according to accepted international standards happened in Microsoft Windows software. Windows Explorer just labeled the number wrong and confused you.

we should petition microsoft to correctly display the HDD capacity.
