Any worship of images is pagan for me. Real christianity prohibits it.
even the jews prohibits the worship of images but carving graven images were being done since the time of moses. the ark had cherubims and the jewish temple have sphinx.
what was prohobited is to worship them. but christianity doesn't prohibit the use of images. archeologist have discovered that the 1st century christians were using pictures and symbols to help them remember the christian doctrines and aid them in preaching their belief to the illiterate.
but the belief od christianity is very much like those of zoroastrians. thus, it might be true that christianity and even judaism was influenced by an earlier non-jewish religion.
