Now, what was Detroit doing during that time? Oh yeah - they released a number of gas guzzling behemoths like the H2, Excursion, Navigator, and the Escalade.

As far as the Japanese cars - it's no secret that the Detroit Big Three are still playing catch-up. If they upped their quality, still it has not reflected on their vehicle's resale value.
we'll thats true kia is already #1 in the philippines but were talking about the market in america, white and black americans don't like small cars and they don't like diesel powered(no need to explain). Now you telling me when it comes to quality that we're catching up? excuse me sir it's the process in the manufacturing plant that my company is catching up w/ the japs. Have you heard common platform? where one common chassis design could be implemented on 3 or 4 models the toyota japs called it IMV. We in Ford we're currently implenting it on ford focus(europe version),MAZDA 3 and VolvoV40 and it's a success so far. We'll as you know these platforms are very well received there in europe and i guess the focus and mazda 3 is doing well dira sa ato sa pinas. kamo ba you think the reason that we're in deep trouble becoz we're building big SUVs hahahha...ahaka sad ah...kamo raman cge reklamo big SUV kalas gasolina remember navigator,H2 etc...is not for common filipino dira sa atoa and it's not meant to run in pinas road except cguro sa luzon where they have expressway. Auto bailout talks collapse over union wages
By JULIE HIRSCHFELD DAVIS and KEN THOMAS, Associated Press Writers

WASHINGTON – A $14 billion emergency bailout for U.S. automakers collapsed in the Senate Thursday night after the United Auto Workers refused to accede to Republican demands for swift wage cuts.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said he was "terribly disappointed" about the demise of an emerging bipartisan deal to rescue Detroit's Big Three.

He spoke shortly after Republicans left a closed-door meeting where they balked at giving the automakers federal aid unless their powerful union agreed to slash wages next year to bring them into line with those of Japanese carmakers.

Republican Sen. George V. Voinovich of Ohio, a strong bailout supporter, said the UAW was willing to make the cuts — but not until 2011.

Reid was working to set a swift test vote on the measure Thursday night, but it was just a formality. The bill was virtually certain to fail to reach the 60-vote threshold it would need to clear to advance.

Reid called the bill's collapse "a loss for the country," adding "I dread looking at Wall Street tomorrow. It's not going to be a pleasant sight."

The implosion followed an unprecedented marathon set of talks at the Capitol among labor, the auto industry and lawmakers who bargained into the night in efforts to salvage the auto bailout at a time of soaring job losses and widespread economic turmoil.

"In the midst of already deep and troubling economic times, we are about to add to that by walking away," said Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., the Banking Committee chairman who led negotiations on the package.

Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee, the GOP point man in the talks, said the two sides had been tantalizingly close to a deal, but the UAW's refusal to agree wage concessions by a specific date in 2009 kept them apart.

The autoworkers' contract doesn't expire until 2011.

-Mao na lagi ning resulta. Pag-gahi-ay nag coconut.
if this fails then, US will plunge into recession.

They need to show that they're dedicated to making good, durable cars. It is the only way the US auto industry can be saved. When the first Ford car came out many, many years ago...that was the beginning of the end of the American buggy industry. Almost overnight, the buggies were no more. There was no gov't bailout then of the buggy industry. It is how the world works. Either you evolve and adapt, or you go the way of the Dodo.

White Americans don't like small cars? Where did you get that idea? The snowbirds may like their big Continentals, Caddies, and Crown Vics but do you seriously think that most Americans love large cars especially in this economy we're in right now? Your deduction doesn't explain the influx of compact and small cars that are in the market right now, do you think these cars are being thrown specifically for the minorities?

Blacks are known for being flambouyant. They live beyond their means - they buy or lease cars and default on the payments. The love the H2's and the Escalades. They upgrade the rims and tires and then they declare bankcruptcy.

Explain why Ford keeps on using low grade plastics on their interiors. Explain why American cars have such low resale value compared to their Japanese counterparts. Explain why American cars has a way lower "life expectancy" than the Japanese cars.

No - we're in deep trouble because credit is not flowing and nobody is buying cars IN GENERAL. It really has nothing to do with AUTO QUALITY kay bisag ang TOYOTA- they're reporting a loss for this year. PEOPLE ARE JUST NOT BUYING CARS!!

Tinuod.. kas ug gasolina ang SUV.. The 16+ years nako diri sa States - I've owned several SUV's (A 4 Runner and 2 Pathfinders - 1 of which I still have a right now). I know how SUV's are - regardless kung American or Japanese make ba na siya. They are heavy vehicles and gas guzzlers bisag Hybrid pa na siya.

And about FORD - GOOD LUCK!! they're planning on declaring bankcruptcy - that's why they do not want to participate in the bailout since that lowers their market share value. They're trying to save what they can before they call it quits - (JUST MY DEDUCTION).

Unbelievable? In what way? Just because I pointed out valid arguments you say I'm unbelievable?

Nope.. I am not an engineer and I do not specialize on interiors. I do not watch TOP GEAR . I am a consumer and I expect to get what I paid for... no matter what it is. If I plan on spending a certain amount of money on a vehicle, I'd pick the best bang for the buck.

I also didn't say that you're an auto salesman. And yes, you should care if your product's resale value is low because to some consumers, it's what steers them to purchase your product. No buyers, no business.. no business = lay-offs. If job security isn't your concern, then good for you.

Panitan ko ninyo sa Michigan? LOL - TIP lang nako nimo ha, tingalig bag-o pa kas America - ayg dad-a imong kalaki sa Pinas diri. Di na mag silbe imong pag bingasik bagsik diri dong.
