Prime95 is a program that stresses your CPU by loading worker threads (application) and consume 100% of CPU resources. The program is commonly used by overclockers to test the stability of their overclock (also to obtain the highest temperature of the procs on load).

Raising your Front-side Bus is only half of the overclocking process, the other half is stress-testing and is the longest part of the overall procedure.

How long do you have to run Prime95?

The video posted by i-7 suggests an hour test of Prime95 but what I would recommend is that it actually depends on the length of time you use your computer at 100% load. Not all programs can strain your processor at 100%, that said, the most notable programs that can do this besides the stress-testing utilities are video/audio rendering which can take hours.

An example is that if you regularly render videos 4 hours a day, then stress-testing would also require 4 hours. You don't want your computer restarting or locking up because of instability, right?
